Lamar’s saloon, Daniel's blacksmith shop, ami several other buildings on the same side of the street wtre burned up. The building in which the record office was situated burned, but the newspaper plant, and most of the contents of the other buildings weie saved. The loss is several thousand dollars, and there was about $1200 insurance on Lamar’s prop erty Dr. J. Casto, lecturer of the Oregon State Grange, is now in Tillamook county for the purpose of organizing the county into granges. This old organi zation is strictly a farmers organization. It gives to the farmers a cheap and safe insurance against fires. Each grange when organized has its own agent to write up the policies. It is mutual. It lias already nearly 10,000 farm houses, barns, etc insured in the state. Be sides this advantage it is a social organi zation where farmers and their families meet once a month and is highly educa tional for young men and women It is also non-political and non-se« tarian. Ilon. B. Killin, of Portland, whois one of the board of regents of the state agricultural college, of Corvallis, was in tke city this week on a pleasure trip, and was inspecting the dairying and creamery business in this vicinity. Mr. Killin has a large ranch in Washington county neat Torest Grove, and pays spe cial attention to breeding good cows and lo dairying, lie has a creamery on his ranch ( apt.
