Patterson, of Hillsboro received the nomination for joint sena i tor, and W L. Brooks, of this county f was the choice for joint representative. I ! T. H. Tongue received the congressional nomination in this, the 1st district, and ' W. R. Ellis was re-nominated in the second district. Sol. Hirsch was chosen ! chairman of the state central commit tee. The con vention made no expres sion on the financial question except to endorse the bi-metallic platform of 1892. The anti-silver resolution was promptly i voted dow n, much to the chagrin of llm Oregonian-Simon-Dolpli-Seni’s-deputy- sheriff-crowd. In passing out of the valley we noticed the natives plowing, seeding and havesting, all within a ra dius of a few miles. At Orizaba we saw the first coffee, and the trees weie bend ing under their load of fruit. We stopped in Vera Cruz two days waiting for a boat.
