Those of you who have starved on the wind swept plains of Kansas, watched your crops wither and die for the want of moisture, and if they do live, see them eaten by grasshoppers or chinchbugs, saw your potatoes und gardens destroyed by gophersand prairie dogs—those of you who have faced the famine in Nebraska, burned corn to keep from freezing to death, fed your cattle nine months out of the year—those w ho have weathered the withering blasts of the Dakotas, had your ears anil feet frozen off, shivered by a red hot stove or toyed with the death dealing zephyrs when the thermometer marked 60 degrees lielow freezo— you who have braved the uncertain and changeable freaks'of old Boreas in Iowa and Minnesota, dug through snow banks to get from your house to your Imrnyard, or witnessed your buildings go up in » cyclone,—you who have shaken with the ague on the Wabash, coughed your lungs out in Chicago, wrestled with yellow fever in Memphis, or sneezed yourself silly’on the alkali plains of Texas—saw your buildings, household goods, and crops floating placidly do» n the swollen Mississippi, saw your fodder rot in the shock, the weevil taking your wheat und the dev il getting your nearest rela tives—you who have seen crops fail seven years in succession, passed through a “busted” oil boom in Pennsylvania, the devastations of war in the South, the strikes in New York city, or tried to eke out a living on the yellow clay h ills'of Vermont—you who have worked hard for years, yet poor, everything mortgaged but the old woman and chilren, and still living from hand to mouth—you who are backsliders, weary of well doing, and discouraged in trying to earn a living honestly—if all these and many other afflictions have been your lot, why, at one fell swoop end all your troubles by coining to Oregon, and to Tillamook, where you will find alisolution from most of the evils of the world. JAMES VICK’S SONS Governor Stone, State Treasurer Stephens aud Colouel Scott Miller of Chillicothe, a member of the governor's persounl staff, returned Just uight from tho east. Each of them weut to Waah- iugtou as a delegate to the silver coufer- euce. Governor Stoue said tliuthe was thor oughly satisfied with the atteuduuce aud work of the couveutiou. It will be re membered that the Missouri goveruor was one of a uatioual committee of five appointed to formulate n plan for organ izing the Democracy in each state. The other members of the committee are: Senators Harris of Tennessee, Jones of Arkansas and Turpie of Indiana and Chairman Hinrichseu of Illinois. This committee expects to meet shortly in St. Louis, but the goveruor stated last night that the date had not yet been fixed. He was asked last night to out line the plan of organization which would probably bo followed, and he was proceeding as rapidly and satisfac torily as any news gatherer could desire when a small army of politicians swooped down ou him. The details which the governor failed to give were supplied by Colouel Scott Miller of Chillicothe. Said the governor before the politi cians arrived : “This committee of five will meet in St. Louis und perfect u plan for uational organization. “Wo will name one man from each state as a national committeeman, aud we are going to get real workers. The way to organize is to goto work. That’s what it means, aud it won't do uny good to appoint a member of this com mittee whose ideas of organization arc that he must sit in an ofllce und wait for people to come to him with sugges tions und ideas. Ho must get out and hustle. ” Said Colonel Miller after the politi cians had swooped down ou the gov eruor: “This organization will provide for a house to house canvas by congres sional districts. It is tho intention to organize the Democracy in each state through a 16 to 1 silver man who is a worker and who understands the politics and the people of his state. He will be the head of the cential organization for his particular state aud will appoint a sort of deputy for each congressional district, who will be the nucleus around which a suborganizatiou is to be per fected, and the whole machinery will then be run in harmony.” It goes without saying that the dele gates just returned expect to get an or ganization which will control the na tional convention, and that it will be dead easy to swing Missouri into line.— St. Louis Kopublic.
