Sheriff’s Office hosts a free Womens Safety Fair The Washington County Sheriff's Office invites women over 14 years of age to partici- pate in a Free Women's Safety Fair. This fair will provide women the opportunity to at- tend the personal safety course titled “Power Curve-Increasing Self Defense Options for Women.” The course will be taught on Saturday, October 13, with registration at 8:00 a.m. The course is designed to empower women by giving them some basic self-defense tools that will help them main- tain their personal safety, and successfully confront and sur- vive potentially dangerous situ- ations. A focus on situational awareness and training in physical self-defense tech- niques will provide options to reduce the risk of abuse and personal attack. From 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. a light lunch will be provided and partici- pants will be able to attend a vendor fair. The vendor fair will be focused on safety, security, and wellness for women. Sheriff’s Deputies who teach defensive tactics to other law- enforcement officers will in- struct the training. The course is provided as a service to the community free of charge. Jim Dandy Farm Store won a 1st place ribbon in the Banks BBQ Parade. The weather was fine for the BBQ and many attended all the events, from car shows to Tractor Pulls to bar- beque sandwiches. Banks School District schedules Mt. Angel Oktoberfest starts on Sept. 10 Community Forum September 13 The 47th annual Oktoberfest runs from Thursday, Septem- ber 13 through Sunday, Sep- tember 16.
