June 10 – Took a report of a sick animal that had been dis- patched on Alder St. Vernonia Justice Court July 3 - 10, 2012 Traffic.......................... 4 June 12 – Criminal Mischief on Bridge St. reported after someone pulled valve stems out of the tires of a vehicle at the high school parking lot. June 14 – Kaylenn Wolfe, 23, Vernonia, arrested on a Probation Violation Detainer; turned over to Washington County Sheriff’s Office. June 15 – Found Bicycles turned in; stored at the police department. June 19 – Jason Miner, 24, Vernonia, arrested on a Coer- cion Warrant; taken to CCSO jail. – Civil situation on Birch St. forwarded to Columbia County DA for review. June 20 – Took report on a counterfeit $10 bill found in a park collection envelope at Air- port Park. June 24 – Juvenile referred to Columbia County Juvenile Dept. for MIP tobacco. June 25 – Criminal Mischief reported on Texas Ave. after someone shot out a window in a parked vehicle with a BB gun. June 28 – Jacob Mandes, 39, Vernonia, arrested on a Warrant for Manufacture of Methamphetamine, Possession of Methamphetamine and Con- tempt of Court; taken to CCSO jail. June 29 – MVA reported at Bridge St. and Mist Dr. June 30 – Janet Gray, 48, Vernonia, arrested for Misde- meanor Driving while Suspend- ed; taken to CCSO jail. Traffic............................ 9 by Police Chief Mike Conner Over the past several years the Vernonia Police Depart- ment has received numerous complaints about the use of Un-muffled Engine Braking throughout the city. The Ore- gon Revised Statutes (811.492) state that “A person commits the Offense of Engine Braking if the person is operat- ing a motor vehicle on a high- way and uses un-muffled en- gine brake.” This offense is a Class (A) Violation and the driver could be issued a citation with a pre- sumptive fine of $435.00. Due to the numerous complaints, the Vernonia Police Depart- ment will issue citations when officers observe this violation.
