Over the past several years
the Vernonia Police Depart-
ment has received numerous
complaints about the use of
Un-muffled Engine Braking
throughout the city. The Ore-
gon
Revised
Statutes
(811.492) state that “A person
commits the Offense of Engine
Braking if the person is operat-
ing a motor vehicle on a high-
way and uses un-muffled en-
gine brake.”
This offense is a Class (A)
Violation and the driver could
be issued a citation with a pre-
sumptive fine of $435.00. Due
to the numerous complaints,
the Vernonia Police Depart-
ment will issue citations when
officers observe this violation.
