While we miss Tom’s pres- ence here, and are thankful for his many years of service in our community, we are happy to announce that he left us with another licensed and fully qual- ified replacement for the fire- works show. Lt. Loren Loomis, of the Vernonia Rural Fire Pro- tection District, has stepped forward and volunteered to take over responsibility for the show. Tom also raised all the mon- ey to fund the fireworks show. It costs approximately $5,000 to put on a display of the same Don’t forget Mother’s Day is May 13 caliber we have enjoyed for the last few years. This is not a sponsored event and the city does not set aside funds for this activity – the money has come from individual donations by businesses, residents and organizations in our area. In order to have a fireworks show again this 4th of July, the materials need to be pur- chased by the first of June. This leaves only a small win- dow of time to raise the funds necessary. Please consider making a donation and talk to your friends, civic group, or or- ganization to see if they would half price. Take advantage of this monthly oppor- tunity because you won’t find better prices any- where else. You don’t have to be a member to enjoy com- panionship and good food at the center. Dinner is served Monday through Friday at noon, with a $4.00 donation suggested for those 60 and old- er, and $5.00 for those under 60. If you prefer your meal to go, call ahead and place your order.
