The INDEPENDENT, March 3, 2011 Page 13 School Board discusses possible $10.5 million November bond levy Banks School District Board of Directors at their February 14 regular meeting discussed an agenda pursuant to school functions and recent negotia- tions, as well as past work ses- sions. The board revisited the district’s intention to file for a $10.5 million dollar bond levy in May. In last November’s gener- al election, the district narrowly lost voter approval of a $25.6 million dollar bond measure to refit the school campus. In January the board held an open work session that ironed out some final details on the May Bond Levy. Over 2,500 high school women are expected to attend this event to receive a free gown. If you have a gown to give, Banks Curves is a donation point. At their January meeting, the board approved placing a bond issue on the May ballot, and board Chairperson Kathy Edi- son officially announced the board’s intent to seek voter ap- proval for another bond. Edison said the hoped-for funds will be used for replacing the junior high, to supply sufficient heat- ing to the high school, paving the elementary school parking lot, and along acquiring new 10 kilometer walk/run, utilizing the linear trail. This fundraiser will go towards updating the el- ementary school’s math cur- riculum. Science teacher Tim Eggle- ston presented information about his animal science class, and possible college credit op- portunities involved with the ed- ucation of husbandry along with biology of farm animals. One of Eggleston’s students discussed what she has learned during the class de- signed around the raising of, and the biology of rabbits. She also brought recently born rab- bits to show the board. The board also heard from organizers of the annual Banks Community Auction, who invit- ed board members to the April 30 event, reminding them to bring their wallets. To close the meeting, the board stated their appreciation for all who made the labor contracts easy and successful. The meeting was then adjourned at 7:25 p.m. To be informed personally, attend the next meeting on March 14, at 7:00 pm, in the district board room.
