School Board discusses possible $10.5 million November bond levy
Banks School District Board
of Directors at their February
14 regular meeting discussed
an agenda pursuant to school
functions and recent negotia-
tions, as well as past work ses-
sions. The board revisited the
district’s intention to file for a
$10.5 million dollar bond levy in
May. In last November’s gener-
al election, the district narrowly
lost voter approval of a $25.6
million dollar bond measure to
refit the school campus.
In January the board held an
open work session that ironed
out some final details on the
May Bond Levy. During the

work session, board members
and the administrators who
were present decided on a
much-reduced $10.5 million
dollar price tag.
At their January meeting, the
board approved placing a bond
issue on the May ballot, and
board Chairperson Kathy Edi-
son officially announced the
board’s intent to seek voter ap-
proval for another bond. Edison
said the hoped-for funds will be
used for replacing the junior
high, to supply sufficient heat-
ing to the high school, paving
the elementary school parking
lot, and along acquiring new
10 kilometer walk/run, utilizing
the linear trail. This fundraiser
will go towards updating the el-
ementary school’s math cur-
riculum.
Science teacher Tim Eggle-
ston presented information
about his animal science class,
and possible college credit op-
portunities involved with the ed-
ucation of husbandry along
with biology of farm animals.
One of Eggleston’s students
discussed what she has
learned during the class de-
signed around the raising of,
and the biology of rabbits. She
also brought recently born rab-
bits to show the board.
The board also heard from
organizers of the annual Banks
Community Auction, who invit-
ed board members to the April
30 event, reminding them to
bring their wallets. To close the
meeting, the board stated their
appreciation for all who made
the labor contracts easy and
successful. The meeting was
then adjourned at 7:25 p.m.
To be informed personally,
attend the next meeting on
March 14, at 7:00 pm, in the
district board room.
