The INDEPENDENT, November 1, 2007 Community Holiday Bucks set to begin soon The Holiday Bucks program, sponsored by the Vernonia Chamber of Commerce, will kickoff at participating local businesses on Friday, Novem- ber 16, and continue through Saturday, December 15. See you at 7:00 p.m. How’s this for a fast thinking senior moment? Abraham Lin- coln, so goes the story, served as a Captain during the Black Hawk War of 1832. One day he found himself leading a militia company across a field toward a gate. The proper command for directing the troops through the gate escaped him com- pletely, “This company is dis- missed for two minutes,” he fi- nally shouted in desperation, “And will fall in again on the other side of the gate.”! The weather is turning cold- er, stay safe and warm every- body. Hopefully, the cooler air won’t slow our minds down any. I’ll be back in…uh…November.
