The INDEPENDENT, October 4, 2007 Page 15 Library website in Washington Co. improved – try it for yourself Getting to the Washington County Cooperative Library Services (WCCLS) website just got a whole lot easier. The Co- operative Library Services re- cently launched a new and much improved URL (www.wc cls.org), replacing the previous www.WILInet.wccls.lib.or.us. Making the move to the eight character URL from a nineteen character one was easy. What comes with the new URL – a new logo and website redesign – took a bit more work and cre- ativity. According to WCCLS Manager Eva Calcagno, the new look and content were in response to patron feedback and WCCLS’ desire to increase the services and information delivered to library users via the website. “The website is an additional library branch that can be used 24 hours a day,” said Calcagno. This is the first major overhaul of the website since 1998. The new website was designed by a Portland- based design firm, Sparkplug. The process began with user interviews and included testing and feedback this Spring. The result is a cohesive design that provides easy navigation and logical content arrangement, featuring photos that depict the beauty of Washington County. Through the WCCLS web- site patrons may access the shared catalog of seventeen WCCLS member libraries, a variety of periodicals, recom- mend websites for research and information, a library events calendar, and informa- tion about library hours and programs. Patrons may use the library catalog to request books, CDs, DVDs, and more. They may even renew materi- als electronically, cancel, sus- pend and reactivate requests, check on the status of loans, requests and fines. Individuals with a WCCLS library card may access the nearly 1.3 million items in the shared collection of the member libraries. For information about local library services, open hours and programming visit the Washington County Coopera- tive Library Services website home page www.wccls.org The Washington County Co- operative Library Services (WC- CLS) library catalog includes the holdings of public libraries in Banks, Beaverton, Cedar Mill, Bethany, Cornelius, Forest Grove, Garden Home, Hillsboro (Main and Shute Park), North Plains, Sherwood, Tigard, Tu- alatin and West Slope, plus WCCLS Outreach to Home- bound, Oregon College of Art and Craft, and the Tuality Health Resource Center.
