Page 20 The INDEPENDENT, June 21, 2007 Titus and Hansen receive farewells from 47J board Letters From page 3 which the Parks committee chooses to plant, maintain and remove trees. An ordinance to specifically address trees is not necessary or advisable at this time within the City of Vernonia • Resource Library – The council should make available a resource li- brary within Vernonia Municipal Li- brary. At minimum, the resource li- brary should contain the following: • Trees which are compatible with the Vernonia area climate • The growth rate, needs and main- tenance of tree species • Policies – No recommendations. The staff of Vernonia Public Works seems capable and there is a clear di- rection to decision making. • Brochure – None recommenda- tion. This would be covered by the Re- source Library. Staff may direct indi- viduals to the library informally. • Arbor Day – no recommenda- tions. Ed. Note: Trees are mentioned in Vernonia’s nuisance (health & safety) ordinance, in regulations regarding public rights-of-way, and in the planning code, but there is no “tree” ordinance.
