Rudy’s mission in life is to motivate children to read books by spreading the word that “read- ing ignites the imagination and makes anything possible!” Rudy is the star of Steve Tay- lor’s Wacky World of Animals, which is coming to the Vernon- ia Public Library on June 21, at 7:00 p.m. All children in the Vernonia City of Vernonia Public Works employees were putting the dam at Rock Creek in place on June 13 to create Dewey Pool for the summer. Bible School will be held in evenings Get ready to Set Sail with Vernonia Community Church’s Vacation Bible School coming June 19-23, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. All kids who pre-register can purchase a Set Sail t-shirt for only $5.00. Choir car wash The Vernonia Community Choir will hold a car wash on Saturday, June 17, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., in the park- ing lot of Mike Pihl Logging on Bridge Street. This benefit is a fundraiser for the annual Easter musical drama, which costs an average of $1200 annually. The per- formances are free although donations are accepted. Fireworks dinner will be June 22 The annual 4th of July Ben- efit Spaghetti Dinner will be held Thursday, June 22, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Buck- horn Restaurant in Vernonia. The menu includes spaghetti, salad, bread, soft drinks and ice cream sundaes for dessert. Tickets are $8.00 for adults and $4.00 for children and may be purchased now at the Buck- horn or from Vernonia Pride, or may be purchased at the door on the night of the dinner. Ear- ly purchases simply make it easier to estimate the amount of food needed. All proceeds will go towards the fireworks display which, ac- cording to pyrotechnician Tom Ramsay, promises to be “the biggest and best display yet at no extra cost!” For tickets or information, call 503-429-4019. Free concerts start in St. Helens “13 Nights on the River” a free concert series – is back for the summer, every Thursday from 6-9:00 p.m. at St. Helens Amphitheater. The cross-cultural series ranges from classical to jazz to Latin to funk to zydeco to coun- try. This Bible School held mornings Vernonia Christian Church invites the children in the com- munity to join them at “Treasure Cove – Discover the riches of Christ,” for a Vacation Bible School that children will never forget. This will be an ex- citing place where children learn to apply Biblical teaching to their lives.
