Council heard some recom- mendations from the Planning Commission and there was dis- cussion with the audience. One suggestion was to make Jefferson Avenue, Shady Lane, and Madison Avenue one way so 45 degree parking could be used and/or to use Shady Lane for RV day-use parking. All of the ideas will be included as possibilities and parking information will be in- cluded in the Comprehensive Plan that the City will be work- ing on early in 2006. Call 503-429-9410 Today! was convened, City Administra- tor Robyn Bassett asked for council permission to move for- ward with the Learning Center project so bids can be solicited and grant monies requested. Council approved Bassett’s plan to get the Learning Center underway. Council heard the first read- ing of an ordinance change that will prohibit the use of remote control planes at Vernonia Air- port. In other business, council: • Set a public hearing for De- cember 5 at 7:00 p.m. on the Hazard Mitigation Plan, • Approved the transfer of the lease on old city hall from Dixie Palmer to Rietta Behnke and Sharon Bernal, • Heard from Bassett about some improvements at Spenc- er Park, • Approved an employment contract with Chief of Police Mathew Workman. Bassett was appointed inter- im City Administrator in August of 2004 and was officially ap- pointed to the position in Feb- ruary, 2005. She has worked for the City of Vernonia for 17 years and was Director of Pub- lic Works prior to accepting the City Administrator position.
