Parking ideas presented at workshop
A workshop on public park-
ing preceded the Vernonia City
Council meeting, November
12. Council heard some recom-
mendations from the Planning
Commission and there was dis-
cussion with the audience.
One suggestion was to
make Jefferson Avenue, Shady
Lane, and Madison Avenue
one way so 45 degree parking
could be used and/or to use
Shady Lane for RV day-use
parking. All of the ideas will be
included as possibilities and
parking information will be in-
cluded in the Comprehensive
Plan that the City will be work-
ing on early in 2006.
When the council meeting

ing of an ordinance change that
will prohibit the use of remote
control planes at Vernonia Air-
port.

cember 5 at 7:00 p.m. on the
Hazard Mitigation Plan,

at 6:00 p.m. Sponsored by Co-
lumbia County, the meeting will
be held at the Rainier Senior
Center, 48 7th St. West.
The meeting will provide an
opportunity for local public
safety and homeland security
stakeholders to discuss the
status of emergency manage-
ment and homeland security in
Columbia County. Topics for
discussion will be how emer-
gency management and home-
land security have changed,
how to sustain and improve the
County’s efforts, provide edu-
cation and assure compliance
with federal and state man-
dates, and other related issues.
Ken Murphy, Director of Ore-
gon Emergency Management
will attend the summit to an-
swer questions and describe
how the federal and state regu-
lations and the focus of those
regulations have shifted from
natural disaster preparedness
to homeland security.
