The INDEPENDENT, July 7, 2005 DALE WESLEY CLINE Dale Wesley Cline, 61, Banks, died June 17, 2005. Memorial services were held June 20 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Forest Grove. Interment will be in Center Chapel Cemetery, Steubenville, Ohio. Mr. Cline was born March 6. 1944, in Steubenville, to Clayton and Mildred Miller Cline. He was raised in Ohio. In 1964, he married Charlotte F. Campbell, the marriage was sealed in 1967 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. They made their home in Ohio, Mis souri and Oregon, moving to Banks in 2000. He worked as a construction pip- efitter/welder. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Richard, Ralph and Robert, and by a grandson. Survivors include his wife; five sons, Aaron M. of Portland, Nathan J. and Andrew S., both of Banks, Matthew A. of American Fork, Utah, Jacob D. of Hereford, Arizona; four daughters, Shelly D. Hancock of Lehi, Utah, April L. Morgan of Kirkland, Wash., Sarah A. Jones and Cara E.M.Cline, both of Banks; four brothers, Victor, Edward, Doyle and Charles, all of Steubenville; two sisters, Patricia Kellermier and Paula Wayt, both of Steubenville; 15 grandchildren; nieces and nephews. ELLERY “RICH” COLBY Ellery “Rich” Colby, 38, Beaverton, died June 10, 2005. A memorial service was held June 20. Mr. Colby was born December 13, 1966, in Portland. He had been a press operator for Apollo Graphics since 1999. Survivors include his wife, Sondra of Beaverton; a son, Nigel of Beaver ton; three step-daughters, Megan, Danell, and Nichol; his mothers, Joetta and Billie of Florida, two sisters, Shelli of Nevada and Ginger Westlake of Ver nonia; his grandmother, Phyllis; nieces and nephews. JOE C. “TR” CRITES Joe C. “TR” Crites, 77, North "A Trusted N am e in Funeral Service " Plains, died June 27, 2005. Graveside services were held June 30 in Tualatin Presbyterian (Old Scotch) Church Cemetery. Mr. Crites was born April 11; 1928, in Russellville, Arkansas, to Joseph and Mary Hamilton Crites. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. In 1952, he married Glendal Smith. They moved to North Plains in the mid- 1950s. He owned a camper recreation al vehicle manufacturing company. Survivors include his wife; a son, Tracy of North Plains, six daughters, Marilyn Roberts, Luann Riddell and Cheryl Crites, all of North Plains, Gail Brennan of Vernonia, Lisa Morrison of Mountaindale, and Jolene Vice of Hills boro; 11 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Fir Lawn Mortuary of Hillsboro was in charge of arrangements. VIRGINIA “BRUCE” ELLIOTT Virginia “Bruce” Elliott, 65, Birken- feld, died June 5, 2005. A celebration of life service was held June 16 at the Mist Grade School gymnasium with Pastors Jeff Mullins and Dale Valavich officiating. Mrs. Elliott was born May 28, 1940, in Washington, D.C., to Duncan Bruce Sr. and Virginia (Venemann) McFad den. In 1957, she married Robert George Elliott. She had been presi- dent/owner of the Portland Taxi Service since 1996. She was preceded in death by her husband. Survivors include a son, Robert B. Elliott of Birkenfeld, a brother, Duncan Bruce McFadden, Jr. of Birkenfeld, a sister, Melissa L. McFadden of Birken feld; 10 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. In terment was in Union Point Cemetery in Banks. Mr. Huntley was born September 8, 1937, in Vernonia, to Louis and Amelia Tarrach Huntley. He was raised in Ver nonia. He served in the U.S. Army dur ing the Korean conflict. In 1959, he married Karen Kulju. A graveside service was held June 15 at Green Mountain Cemetery in Rainier. Mr. Johnsen was born August 3, 1924, in Vernonia, to Alfred and Mar- garethe (Hegli) Johnsen. He graduated from Rainier High School in 1943. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. In 1948, he married Betty Jean Mizell. He was a die maker for Long view Fibre for 41 years, retiring in 1986. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Danny of Rainier, and David of Vancou ver, Wash.; two daughters, Sharyn Mobley of Portland, and DeAnne Light foot of Longview, Wash.; four grandchil dren; three great-grandchildren. Remembrances are suggested to Community Home Health and Hospice, P.O. Box 2067, Longview WA 98632. ROBERT ALBERT MANN Robert Albert Mann, 63, Portland, died June 20, 2005. A graveside serv ice was held June 23 at Bayview Cemetery in Warren. Mr. Mann was born April 22, 1942, in St. Helens, to John A. and Ruby F. (King) Mann. He was raised in St. Helens. In 1965, he married Karen. She died in 1990. He worked for Crown Zellerbach for 22 years and Tube Forg ing for 15 years, retiring in March of 2005. He moved to St. Johns in 1993. Survivors include his companion, Myong Miles; two sons, Steve of Rainier and Scott of Salem; a daughter, Rhonda Norred of Jackson, Wyoming; a brother, David; five sisters, Iris Nar cissus and Lori Mann, both of Portland, Orchid Dunn of Warrenton, Sheri Berg er of Ashland, and Sherin McWhirter of Vernonia; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held June 27 at All Saints Episcopal Church in Hillsboro. Mr. Miller was born April 16,1937, in Hillsboro and graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1955. He served in the U.S. Air Force. In 1975, he married Cheri “Smokie” Morris. He worked as a long-haul truck driver. In 1978, they moved to Sacra mento, Calif., where he worked at Mc- Clellen Air Force Base. They moved to Sun City after he retired in 1998. Survivors include his wife; one son, Brandon of Vancouver, B.C., Canada; two daughters, Debby Ewing of Hanes and Heidi Fink of Santa Rosa, Calif.; his mother, Ardath Miller of Hillsboro; one sister, Cecilia Justice of Banks; six grandchildren; nieces and nephews. CHRIS W. NELSON Chris W. Nelson, 41, Roseville, Cal ifornia, died May 29, 2005. Graveside services were held in Paradise Ceme tery in Paradise, Calif. Mr. Nelson was born August 8, 1963, in Anaheim, Calif. He moved with his family to Banks where he was raised. He was preceded in death by his mother, Jean Colson, and a brother, David. Survivors include a son, Dylan of Riverside, Calif.; a daughter, Samantha Nelson of Riverside, Calif.; his father, David J. of Clatskanie; a brother, Randy of Forest Grove; two nieces and a nephew. JANET ANN SAUER Janet Ann Sauer, 70, Ridgefield, Washington, died June 19, 2005. Fu neral service was held June 24 at Ever green Memorial Gardens followed by a graveside service at Vernonia Memori al Cemetery. Mrs. Sauer was born October 11, 1934 in Minot, North Dakota, to Everet “Pete” and Helen Peterson. Her family moved to Vernonia when she was very young. She graduated from Vernonia High School two years early, then at tended the University of Oregon. In 1961, she married Reginald Jones. They made their home in Ridgefield and raised thoroughbred horses. He died in 1980. In 1984, she married Patrick Sauer. They made their home in Ridgefield She worked 40 plus years at ALCOA in the cable planning department. She was preceded in death by her husband, Pat; a son, Loren; and a brother, James Peterson. Survivors include one son, Rex Jones of Ridgefield, and three grand children. Remembrances are suggested to Hospice Southwest, P.O. Box 1600, Vancouver, WA 98668. DAVID GRANT STRICKLAND David Grant Strickland, 76, Banks, died June 20,2005. Private family serv ices will be held. Mr. Strickland was bom March 4, 1929, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Jesse and O’Greita (Fain) Strickland. In 1938 the family moved to Beaverton, where he was raised. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. In 1952, he married Carla Indahl. They made their home in Beaverton until moving to Warrenton in 1996 and to Banks in 2001. He worked as a letter carrier for the Beaverton Post Office until retiring in 1985. He was preceded in death by his Page 23 wife and two brothers, George and Ray. Survivors include a son, Jeff of Banks; a brother, Bob of Gresham; six grandchildren and three great-grand children. Remembrances are suggested to the American Cancer Society, Portland Branch. Westside Cremation & Burial Ser vice was in charge of arrangements. RUSSELL LEE “ RUSTY” TIEDEMAN Russell Lee “Rusty” Tiedeman, 87, Jewell, died June 23, 2005. A graveside celebration of life was held June 29 at Jewell Cemetery. Mr. Tiedeman was born March 30, 1918, in Oregon City, to Earl and Anne Tiedeman. While he was an infant the family moved to Birkenfeld. In 1924, they moved to Jewell, where he gradu ated from high school in 1936. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. In 1943, he married Ella Mae Pin- cott. After the war, they made their home in Salem until moving to Jewell in 1948. His wife passed away in 1967. In 1981, he married Dorothy Loumena. He worked in a machine shop in Salem, as a timber faller until 1967 and supple mented his income by trapping beaver and mink. In the 1970s he worked on the Alaska pipeline. He retired in 1983. He was preceded in death by a sis ter, Shirley Foster. Survivors include his wife; a son, Mike of Knappa, a daughter, Roberta Smith of Jewell; two stepsons, Duane Loumena of Portland and Rick Bow man of Olympia, Wash.; a stepdaugh ter, Sherry Smead of Portland; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Remembrances are suggested to a charity of choice. Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary in Astoria was in charge of arrangements. JOSEPH TOSI Joseph Tosi, 89, Portland, died June 12, 2005. Services were held June 17 at Our Lady of Sorrows. Mr. Tosi was born in 1916, to Batista and Adelina Tosi after they immigrated from Italy. He was the first and only member of his generation to graduate form high school. He worked at Camp Wilark during the Depression. In 1939, he married Helen Franzak. He apprenticed to the craftsman who installed the floors at Pittock Mansion. Survivors include his friend, Roxy; his daughter, Karen Adele; his son, Joseph Michael, and three grandchil dren. Remembrances are suggested to the PSU Italian Studies Program. MONSIGNOR EDMUND G. VANDERZANDEN Monsignor Edmund G. Vanderzan- den, 94, Portland, died June 16, 2005. A mass of Christian burial was held June 22 in St. Mary's Cathedral in Portland. Monsignor Vanderzanden was bom February 2,1911, in Banks. He was or dained in 1938 and served the Archdio cese of Portland in various capacities. He was also chancellor of the archdio cese for over 25 years as well as vicar general for several years. Survivors include his brother, Aloy- sius R.; nieces and nephews. Remembrances are suggested to the Priests Retirement Fund at the archdiocese. See page 24
