A funeral mass was celebrated June 7 at St. An thony’s Catholic Church. Interment with full military honors was in Willamette National Cemetery, Portland. Mr. Davis was born March 19,1918, in Chinook, Montana, to Anthony and Ellen McLain Davis. He graduated from high school in Yale, South Dakota. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. In 1968, he married Hazel I. Gehrts Meade. They made their home in For est Grove. He worked as an auto me chanic and on several of the regional dams. He was preceded in death by two brothers, James W. and John R.; a sis ter, Kathryn; a grandson and a nephew. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jack Meade in Buxton and Lonnie Meade of Hillsboro; three daughters, Irene Crandall of Cedar City, Utah, Jan ice Montes of Forest Grove, and Kristy Helgeson of Cornelius; a sister, Mary Thomas of Huron, S.D.; 12 grandchil dren; three step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Recitation of the rosary and a funeral mass were held June 7 at Visitation Catholic Church in Verboort. Austin was born September 1, 1998, to David and Lori Evers. He at tended kindergarten last year at Banks Elementary School. Survivors include his parents; three brothers, Zack, Eric and Nick, all of Ver boort; grandparents, Gene and Janice Evers of Verboort, Dolores Evers of North Plains, and Leon and Carol Kuhn of Palmer, Alaska; a great-grandmoth er, Marian Wagers of Anchorage, AK; aunts and uncles. Graveside services were held June 8 in Mountain View Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Franck was born May 12, 1929, in Crandall, Mississippi, to Ho race and Geneva Norsworthy William son. At age 7, she moved to Forest Grove where she was raised. In 1946, she married Richard W. Franck. They made their home in For est Grove. She was preceded in death by her husband and a brother, Joe W il liam son. Survivors include a son, Robin Franck of Sublimity; three daughters, Judy Pardue of Forest Grove, Charlotte Porter of Port Orchard, Wash., and De- lores Coffey of Banks; a brother, James Williamson of Rochester, Wash.; a sis ter, Virginia Stapleton of Eugene; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. SU MARIE HILGER Su Marie Hilger, 40, Buxton, died June 8, 2005. Recitation of the rosary followed by a funeral Mass was held June 11 in St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Roy. Ms. Hilger was born May 10, 1965, in Portland, to Bob J. and Liz Hilger. She moved to Buxton in 1971 and graduated from St. Mary of the Valley High School. She was an office worker at Legacy Good Samaritan Hospital. Survivors include her parents and a brother, Bob F. Hilger. Remembrances are suggested to St. Francis School in Roy. Zeller was in charge of arrange ments. JANICE MARIE HOLMES Janice Marie Holmes, 66, Vernonia, died June 14, 2005. Visitation will take place June 20 from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Fuiten, Rose & Hoyt Funeral Home in Vernonia. Graveside services will be Tuesday, June 21, at 11:00 a.m. at Vernonia Memorial Cemetery, with Reverend John J. Cahill of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Mrs. McDonald was born May 3, 1921, in Glenwood, to Oscar and Ora (Lee) Smith. She was raised in Glen wood. In 1940, she married Ronald Mc Donald. They made their home on Rock Creek, near Keasey. In 1977, she moved to Forest Grove, returned to Vernonia in 2000, then to Hillsboro in March 2005. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband; six brothers, Delbert, Clifford, Wayne, Roscoe, Kenneth, and Donald “Bob” Smith; three sisters, twins, Max ine Smejkal and Mildred Calhoun, and Beryl Cota. Survivors include her son, Lanny R. of Vernonia; three brothers, Sam Smith of Scappoose, Raymond Smith of Cot tage Grove, and Ronald Smith of Ver nonia; a sister, Retha John of Sweet Home; three grandchildren; five great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held June 1 at the Ver nonia Community Church with Pastor Grant Williams officiating. Interment was at Vernonia Memorial Cemetery. Mr. Ridling was born June 18,1915, in Mena, Arkansas, to Harvey, Sr. and Alice (David) Ridling. When he was three, he moved with his family to Okla homa, where he was raised. In 1934, he moved to Banks, where he worked on a dairy farm. In 1940, he married Dorena G. An derson. They made their home in Ver nonia. He worked in logging and sawmills from 1940 to 1970, then as a custodian in the Beaverton School Dis trict for ten years, until retiring in 1980. He was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters. Survivors include his wife; a son, Loren Ridling of Aloha; two daughters, Janet Conger of Vernonia, and Glynis Almond of Gaston; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. ROMINE Virgil H. Romine, 86, Scappoose, died May 27, 2005. Private family serv ices have been held. Mr. Romine was born September 23, 1918, in Raymond, Washington. In 1941, he married Oma G. Don- nel. They made their home in Washing ton, Colorado, California, or wherever the jobs took them. He worked as a log ger in Camp McGregor for many years. In 1952, the family moved to Scap poose. He worked for Finley Sunset Hills Memorial Park for 27 years as park foreman and groundskeeper. He was preceded in death by his wife; a brother, Vem; and two sisters, Dutchie and Wynne. Survivors include his son, Terry of Scappoose; a daughter, Gayle Johnson of Newberg; two brothers, Larry and Clare; six grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren. SHANTA SAVARA Shanta Savara, 37, Santa Fe, New Mexico, died May 26, 2005. A service was held June 10 at the family home in Manning. Ms. Savara was born September 15, 1967, in Portland, to Bhim Savara and Lalla Lepeschkin. She grew up in Santa Fe, N.M. She had a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the Universi ty of New Mexico. Survivors include her mother of Redmond; sister, Lisa Koch of Red mond; brother, Raj Savara; and step mother, Mary Lou Savara of Manning. Remembrances are suggested to St. Martin’s, P.O. Box 27258, Albu querque, N.M., 87125. KEITH JUNIOR SCHARLEPP Keith Junior Scharlepp, 67, Moun- taindale, died June 3, 2005. A celebra tion of life was held June 12. Mr. Scharlepp was born November 11, 1937, in O ’Brien County, Iowa, to Frank and Johanna Calsbeek Schar lepp. He was raised in Iowa. He served in the U.S. Navy. In 1959, he married Jacalyn Wheel er. They made their home in Parkrose, Beaverton, and Mountaindale. He worked as a sheet metal fabricator at NW Copper Works in Portland and re tired in 1995. He then ran his own shop and raised thoroughbred horses. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jim C. and Ken F., both of Banks; two brothers, Francis of Carson, Calif., and Robert of Mountaindale; three grand children; three step-grandchildren. Remembrances are suggested to the stroke unit at Emanuel Hospital, 2801 N. Gantenbein Ave., Portland. Duyck and VanDeHey Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. DAISY VEY THOMPSON Daisy Vey Thompson, 78, Se quim , W ashington, died May 10, 2005. Services and interment were held in Sequim. Mrs. Thompson was born January 10, 1927, in Toledo, Ohio. In 1945, she married Lee Thomp son. They moved to Oregon in 1961 and later owned the Town Cafe in Port land and The Spar Tree in Vernonia. In 1998, they moved to Sequim. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol. Survivors include her husband; five children, Wes, Starr, Patti, Robin and Mitch; 13 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and one great-great- granddaughter. CATHERINE CELLA WILCE Catherine Celia Wilce, 53, Banks, died May 27, 2005. A service was held June 1 in Bateman Carroll Funeral Home. Mrs. Wilce was born September 6, 1951, in Portland. Her maiden name was Johnston. In 1975, she married Jerry Wilce. They moved to Banks in 1980. She worked for J.D. Pence Aquatic Supply. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Wendy and Nancy; one brother, Ron Johnston; and two sisters, Debra Heurlin and Barbara Nelson. Remembrances are suggested to the German Shepherd Dog Club of America for dog-rescue training.
