Janet Wright, Assistant to the C olum bia C ounty Board of Commissioners, was appointed as alternate to the committee. “I am honored to have been appointed to the RAC and I look forward to enhancing Co lumbia County’s position in re gards to its investment in public lands,” said Corsiglia. The purpose of the RAC is to ships between the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and local communities and make recommendations to the Secre tary of the Interior on projects that benefit federally-ow ned forest lands, consistent with the provisions of the Secure Rural School and Community Self- Determination Act of 2000. The Act calls for the establishment of a RAC for local oversight of federally owned forest lands, and sets a five-year payment schedule to communities in lieu of funds from timber harvest. Colum bia County has re ceived $152,300 under Title II of the Act for a variety of forest and stream enhancement proj ects, including the CZ Trail Crossings, Scappoose-Vernon ia Road Overlay, and Pisgah Home Road improvement. The com m ittee oversees funding opportunities for proj ects to further watershed pro tection, fish-friendly passage and that enhance and maintain forest. It also provides interest ed parties a venue to partici pate openly and meaningfully in the early stages of project development. Presenting the staff report, City Planner Julie Steffen said that the vacated portion was not expected to ever be used for a street and that 100 per cent of neighbors approved the request. Citizen Jerry Keenon spoke in favor of the vacation, saying it would improve water flow to the residents in the area when the water line is upgraded as proposed. No one spoke in op position to the vacation and the public hearing was closed. During the workshop, all attendees were invited to write on large pieces of paper posted on the walls around the room what they liked, disliked and would like to see improved, about each city park. The information gathered will be used by the Parks Committee to put togeth er an updated Parks Master Plan, to be released this fall. The last Master Plan was done in 1999. City Adm inistrator Robyn Bassett reviewed some of the com m ents, including more parking at Anderson Park and using the Airport for fireworks. There will be a part time Park person starting in July, she said, but w ithout increased funds, that w on’t be enough to maintain the parks. The next meeting will be June 6, 7:00 p.m. at City Hall.
