By Chief Matthew Workman Vernonia Police Department Just a reminder t h a t there will be a Bike R odeo a n d S a fe ty Program at Wash- i n g t o n Grade School on Saturday April 16 , starting at 9:00 a.m. There will be two new bicycles given away, new bike helmets for $5 and $7 or Free if you have a fi nancial need, a safety course, bike licensing, and many other activities. Everyone is invited, so bring your bikes and safety equipment on April 16 to WGS. Another issue of the paper and again another crime that affects our community. As re ported in the blotter, two of the Elk Silhouettes were stolen that were recently created. The first number is a statewide 24- hour hotline and website for re porting school violence. The number, 866-305-7745, can be used to report any type of infor mation relating to school vio lence or safety. The reality of school violence was realized with the recent school shooting in Minnesota. In the Minnesota case and several others, there were signs that were never re ported to authorities that may from the garbage cans down town. These silhouettes were part of the several downtown beautification measures that make downtown Vernonia such a neat place to be. Unfortunate ly they are also easy targets for vandals and thieves. If you have any information about these thefts or any crimes call the Vernonia Police Depart ment at 503-429-7335.
