Page 4 The INDEPENDENT, March 17, 2005________________ Vernonia Council honors students, approves Airport Ordinance The March 7 meeting of the Vernonia City Council started with an award presentation to Mrs. Cam pbell’s fourth grade class from Washington Grade School. The award was in ap preciation of the students’ work in designing “Welcome to Ver nonia” brochures. The Council meeting was then adjourned and a public hearing on the Property Main tenance Code was opened. George Tice invited every one to the Vernonia Drug Free Community Coalition’s special meeting on Marijuana and the Youth of Vernonia being held March 14. Council unanim ously ap proved a new Airport O rdi nance, and heard Mike Sea- ge r’s concerns on the proposed Airport Leases. Because the leases are set to be paid on a quarterly or yearly basis, Sea- ger raised a concern that other airports...and this airport up to now ...have had m onth-to- month leases which make pay ing easier. The Council then unanim ously approved the lease agreements as written.
