Most duties of the city administrator involve working with community leaders, department or di- vision heads of the City, other inter- governmental agencies, representa- tives of business and the general pub- lic. Actions taken are on broad policy, planning, and budget problems of the City operations as directed by the City Council. Candidate should have Bach- elor’s Degree in Business/Public Ad- ministration or closely related field; Master’s Degree given preference. Equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of degree. Five years progressively responsible public or business management experience affording general knowledge of local and state laws. The position requires extensive knowledge of municipal government organization, powers, functions and relationships with other governmental jurisdictions; principles and practices of public budgeting, fi- nance, banking, reporting, and per- sonnel management, assigning and supervising the work of others; office practices, procedures and methods, and of all legal requirements and pro- cedures involved in conducting elec- tions. The ideal candidate shall have skill in grant application/procure- ment/administration from public and private entities. In addition the new ad- ministrator shall have the ability to su- pervise and evaluate ongoing and fu- ture projects, properly delegate re- sponsibilities to the appropriate areas, and maintain accountability for the overall success of City services. The City Administrator shall develop and prepare effective, readily understand- able correspondence, administrative reports, and public relations informa- tion; be an excellent manager of peo- ple; and an exceptional communicator, both orally and in writing. Prior to em- ployment, candidate must submit to a drug screen, bond ability, educational and experience verification, criminal background, reference checks, med- ical and psychological screening.
