The staff report on this matter will Obituary ROBERT WAYNE DEAN Robert Wayne Dean, 67, Vernonia, died June 10, 2004. A memorial gather- ing will be held Saturday, June 19, at 1:00 p.m. at the family home in Vernonia. Interment will be private. Mr. Dean was born December 29, 1936, in Norfolk, Nebraska, and adopt- ed by Gilbert A. and Adah M. (Cunningham) Dean. The family moved to the Springfield/Eugene area where he was educated. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was married to Direct Cremation $ 475 Margaret Manning, they later divorced. In 1965, he married Penny Rae Badley. They made their home in Springfield/Eugene, moving to Forest Grove in 1968 and Vernonia in 1969. He worked for Pacific Plastic Pipe in North Plains until his retirement in 1998. He was preceded in death by a sis- ter, Ruth. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Douglas of Sisters, Timothy of Vernonia; one daughter, Tina Dean of Vernonia; three grandchildren; nieces and nephews. ROBERT FRANKLIN MILLS Robert Franklin Mills, 60, Seal Rock, died May 28, 2004. Services have been held. Mr. Mills was born April 3, 1944, in Portland, to Ruby and Robert F. Mills. He graduated from Forest Grove High School in 1962. In 1982, he married Karen Jo Anne Brown. He owned and operated Bob’s Concrete Works in Seal Rock and was a minister of Jehovah’s Witness. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Shane of Portland, and Jason of Banks; a daughter, Heidi Lawhon of Newport; one brother, Duane of Washington; four grandchildren. VIVIAN VIOLET SHARP Vivian Violet Sharp, 91, Olympia, Washington, died May 26, 2004. A funeral service was held in Tumwater, Wash., with burial at Union Pioneer Cemetery in Banks. A funeral mass was held June 4 at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Mrs. Simonatti was born June 4, 1908, in Piasco, Italy. Her maiden name was Manassero. They moved to Portland in 1910. She graduated from Franklin High School. In 1929, she married Bruno Simonatti. They made their home in Vernonia until moving to Milwaukie in 1946 and to Portland in 1953. She worked as a bookkeeper for Pierre Bakery, in the cafeteria at Milwaukie Grade School and as cafeteria manag- er for Portland Public Schools for more than 20 years. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1986. Survivors include one daughter, Norma Lisac; one son, Roger; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren. Mt. Scott was in charge of arrange- ments. WALTER A. WILLIS Walter A. Willis, 87, Forest Grove, died June 6, 2004. Funeral services were held at the Fuiten, Rose & Hoyt Funeral Home in Forest Grove. Interment was at Forest View Cemetery in Forest Grove. Mr. Willis was born September 22, 1916, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to William Alfred and Mae (Peterson) Willis. When he was three, the family moved to Buxton, then to Scofield when he was five, and to Cornelius in 1931. He grad- uated from Hillsboro High School in 1935. After working for J.C. Penney and for Mastercraft Cleaners, he was a cus- todian in Willamina, then Amity, then the Beaverton School District until his retirement in 1982. Survivors include three sons, Michael J. of Weaverville, Calif., Roger D. of Hahira, Georgia, Brian D. of Nashville, Tenn.; one daughter, Jean Willis of Santa Clara, Calif.; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Presently, the City of Vernonia does not have a comprehensive set of code provisions which address the placement, size, and design of signs constructed in the City. The proposed sign code would regu- late factors such as size, location, construc- tion and number of signs.
