Senior Center seeks volunteers The Vernonia Senior Center would like help setting up a Community Volunteer Service. This Service needs people who may need help; and ones who would be willing to help. The service would be local only; food, Vernonia Clinic. No chores. The Center is willing to open its doors to anyone without heat. Vernonia has always been a wonderful “help your neighbor” community. Now is the time to start searching for them. Due to the large number of books out of circulation, the Vernonia Public Library will offer an amnesty period during National Library Week, April 18 – 24. During this period books, and other library materials, can be returned and all fines accrued will be waived. So, search your house for those overdue items, and turn them in to the library next week so others can enjoy them. It won’t cost you a thing! Poems to be read on April 17 Bring your favorite poem and join others at the “Read Your Favorite Poem” event on Saturday, April 17, at 2:30 p.m. at the Vernonia Public Library. The event is being spon- sored by Hands On Art and the Academy of American Poets. KATU News, will be at Vernonia Public Library on Thursday, April 29, at 8:00 p.m. Producer of the Emmy Award- winning, “Spirit of the Northwest” news series, Linnman will discuss some of these amazing people, as well as other people and events he has covered as a television newscaster. Copies of his book, “The Exploding Whale: and Other Remarkable Stories from the Evening News” will be available for purchase and for signing by the author. To our o w n R u s s Taylor, a member of the Vernonia Senior C e n t e r, congrat- ulations for his second place win at the 4th Annual Spelling Bee held here April 2. Beside being a good dancer and a good kitchen dishwasher, he can spell…G-O-O-D J-O-B! Thanks, Audeen Wagner, you had a great turnout! We had a great time with a great crowd enjoying a great lunch with great music here April 9 at our annual Easter lunch. We appreciated Romanna’s super dessert, Rosie’s handmade decora- tions, Jaimie’s as always deli- cious meal, Bill’s auctioneering, and all those who participated in our Easter bonnet/hat con- test.
