BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS FOR COLUMBIA COUNTY, OREGON By: Joe Corsiglia, Chair Publish July 3, 2003 Bus transportation remains unsettled From page 1 tracts with MetroWest and Scappoose Senior Center were unsigned because they were written for 90 days, but the state is providing funding for only 30 days. County Counsel John Knight, after considerable time on the phone with state officials, said he felt comfortable in predicting that the problems would be worked out without further difficulty. The contract calls for Metro West to provide dial-a-ride service, six hours a day, in Ver nonia, Clatskanie, Rainier and St. Helens, plus a fixed route from St. Helens to Portland on weekdays. Scappoose Senior Citizens will provide transporta tion there, which they have been doing, anyway. Knight said he was under the impression that MetroWest will be re-hiring Colco drivers. With luck, not planning, sen iors in Columbia County will be able to get to medical appoint ments again, starting next week. How, or whether, there will be bus service to St. Helens for anyone needing to see their case worker, hasn’t been ad dressed. The INDEPENDENT was unable to talk with MetroWest before press time.
