Ser vices were held October 19, at Fuiten, Rose & Hoyt Funeral Home in Vernon ia, with President Lee Knowlton of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, in Vernonia, officiating. Mrs. Ekegren was born October 22, 1915, in Longville, Louisiana. She grew up in Vernonia, Weed, Calif., and Longville. She graduated from high school in Longville. In 1937, she married Percy Milton Ekegren. They lived in Hines until mov ing to Portland in 1942, then in 1946 to Long Beach, Calif., where they owned and operated the Press Club. Later, they owned and operated Harley’s Fishing Resort in La Push, Wash., un til retiring in 1987. In 1997, they moved to Bandon; she moved to Oroville in 2001. Mrs. Ekegren was a member and treasurer of the National Dining and Beverage Association. She was also a member of the Lady Anglers. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2000; two brothers, Thur man DeHart and A. L. DeHart, Jr.; a sister, Dorothy O’Neil; and a son, Roger, in 1984. Survivors include two daughters, Linda Daily of Fullerton, Calif, and Glo ria Farris of Oroville; three brothers, Mitchell DeHart of Seattle, Wash., Lester DeHart of Sheridan, and David DeHart of Portland; two sisters, Betty Meier of Tacoma, Wash., and Tempie Nance of Vernonia; eight grandchil dren; thirteen great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Fu neral service was Oct. 16 at Donelson, Sewell and Mathews Mortuary in Hills boro, with Pastor Mark Rainey, of Orenco Presbyterian Church, officiat ing. Graveside services were in Moun tain View Memorial Gardens, Forest Grove. Mrs. Smith was born July 24,1910, in Mountaindale, to Earl and Sadie Keene Hollenbeck. She grew up in Mountaindale and graduated from Banks High School in 1927. She married Huebert Smith. They lived on a farm in Mountaindale. In 1997, she moved to Forest Grove and, in 2000, to Vancouver. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and worked at Bird's Eye Cannery during harvest seasons. She was an active member of Pythian Sisters and Royal Neighbors of America. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1984; a son, Earl; two sis ters, Helen Connolley and Amy Van- Domelen. Survivors include a son, Garth of Vancouver; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. DAVID G. FROST David G. Frost, 67, Hillsboro, died October 29, 2002. A bon voyage cele bration was held Nov. 5 in the Tuality Health Education Center in Hillsboro. Mr. Frost was born August 14, 1935, in Cloquet, Minnesota. He moved to Scoggins Valley in 1946 and graduated from Forest Grove Union High School in 1953. He attended Willamette University, earning a bach elor of arts degree in economics in 1957; and an LLB in 1960 from Willamette’s College of Law. He practiced law from 1960 to 2002, serving as City Attorney for For est Grove, Vernonia and Gaston. He was corporate attorney for Tuality Healthcare organizations, was a founder and director of SakeOne Cor poration, and attorney for the L.A. Wa ter Cooperative. He also served as a Representative in the Oregon State Legislature from 1967 through 1971, and was appointed as a Washington County Commission er in 1978. He was chairman of the Cit izens Advisory Committee tor the West Side Transit corridor (Metro) and a member of the Citizens’ Advisory Com mittee to Northwest Power Council. He was a member of the Board of Gover nors for the Oregon State Bar Associa tion, member and president of the board of directors of Tualatin Valley Guidance Clinic, and director and sec retary for the Tuality Health Alliance. He received the Distinguished Service Award as Hillsboro’s Outstanding Young Man in 1966. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Barbara; two sons, Griffith of Hilo, Hawaii, and Thomas of Portland; two daughters, Kristin Albrecht of Hills boro, and Katherine Kamakahi of St. Stephens, Minn.; 12 grandchildren; two brothers, O.W. “Jack” of Medford, and Allan of Twin Falls, Idaho; and a sister, Peg Morton of Sun City, Ariz. WILLIAMS Beulah Jane Williams, 76, Scog gins Valley died October 6, 2002. Mrs. Williams was born July 4, 1926, in Vernonia, to Frank and Ella O’Connor. She married Glenn Williams in 1942; they lived in Scoggins Valley. She was preceded in death by her hus band in July, 2002. Survivors include a son, Gale; two daughters, Connie McMillan and Mina Rennie; a brother Elton O’Connor; sev en grandchildren; six great grandchil dren; nieces and nephews. BUTTERWORTH EB Charles Butterworth, 85, North Plains, died October 18, 2002. Grave side services and interment were Oct. 25 at St. Francis Cemetery in Roy, with Pastor Marvin H. Schrom, retired min ister of the North Plains Christian Church, officiating. Flag Honor Presen tation was under the direction of the American Legion Washington Post No. 2, Forest Grove. Mr. Butterworth was bom Novem ber 13, 1917, in Hillsboro, to Admiral Lucerne and Bertha Rosecran Butter worth. He grew up in Gales Creek. In 1941, he married Martha T. Van- Domelen. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He drove gravel truck to build the Wilson River Hwy., and later drove lumber truck for a mill above Mountaindale and drove a shipyard bus. He also worked in Scappoose, Rockaway and Spray. In 1955, he worked hauling atomic material for the Atomic Energy Com mission. He moved to Manning and Alaska, where he drove truck, then re turned to Manning and worked for Shadybrook Lumber Company. He moved to North Plains in 2000. He was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister. Survivors include his wife; a son, Jim of Hillsboro; a daughter, Deanna Cole of North Plains; five grandchil dren; six great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Mrs. Bunch was born July 18,1940, in Vancouver. She was a Certified Nurses Aid. She was a member of the Mud Puppies 4-wheel drive club and the Clark County Saddle Club. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1999; and a daughter, Maryann A. Freimuth, in 1975. Survivors include two sons, Earl and Ed Freimuth, both of Vancouver; a daughter, Marlene Duval of Vancouver; a sister, Beverly Perrin of Castro Val ley, Calif.; a brother, Howard “Skip" Buzzini of Vernonia; five grandchildren. Burial rites and interment were at the North Cemetery of Clear Creek, Vernonia. Ms. Meyer was born July 14,1939, in Vernonia, to Richard H. and Lillian M. Kelly Meyer. She graduated from Vernonia High School in 1958. She was a custodian at Physicians & Surgeons Hospital and Pacific Uni versity in Forest Grove until she retired in 2000. Ms. Meyer was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include a brother, Richard L. of Vernonia; two sisters, Kathi of Bend, and Erma of Sherwood; nieces and nephews. Graveside services were held at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, with the Rev erend C. Eugene Sabin officiating. Mrs. Violette was born June 10, 1912, in Brimstone, Tennessee. She grew up in Goodlettsville, Tenn. In 1943, she married Louis E. Vio lette Sr. They lived in Goodlettsville, Canton, Ohio, and, in 1946, moved to Vernonia, where she worked at the Joy Theater. She moved to Tigard in 1990. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1976; a son, John; a broth er, Victor Reese; and a sister, Versie Dickerson. Survivors include a son, Louis E. Jr. of Tigard; a brother, Vestal Reese of Goodlettsville; a sister, Viola Hamlette of Goodlettsville; three grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; three great grandchildren; four step-great grand children.
