The typical tax bill will in crease 2.3 percent inside the City of Vernonia and only 1.87 percent in the rural areas of Vernonia. Mist-Birkenfeld Rural Fire District property owners w ill see a 2.36 percent in crease. These increases of less than three percent are due to low er bonded debt for both Portland C om m unity College and Vernonia Rural Fire Dis trict. Under Measure 50, taxing districts have frozen tax rates for operating purposes. At the same time, assessed values of individual properties are limited to a maximum of three percent increase each year, unless the property is improved, subdivid ed, re-zoned or disqualified from special assessment or ex em ption. These are “excep tions” to the three percent in crease in assessed value. The result of these two pro visions of Measure 50 is that most property owners can ex pect a three percent increase in Please see page 17 MIST-BIRKENFELD 6:30 p.m., Head Start Bldg. 7:00 p.m., Head Start Bldg. 627 Adams Ave./ 503-429-4000 2:00 p.m., City Library 7:30 p.m., VHS Library 7:00 p.m., Head Start Bldg. 7:00 p.m., LDS Church 7:00 p.m., Leonetti’s Grill Noon, Lew’s Place For Info Call 503-429-0188 1:00 p.m., Senior Center 7:00 p.m., Vernonia Library For location call 503-429-7193 6:30 p.m., Lew’s Place For Info Call 503-429-4074 10:30 a.m., City Library 6:30 p.m., First Baptist Church For location call 429-2401 7:00 p.m., City Library For location call 503-429-1414 7:00 p.m., City Hall Noon, City Hall 10:30 a.m., Grange Hall 6:00 p.m., 510 Bridge St. 7:00 p.m., City Hall For Info Call, 503-429-5201 7:00 p.m., City Library 7:00 p.m., Fire Station 8:00 p.m., District Office 1:00 p.m., Senior Center 7:00 p.m., Fire Station 7:00 p.m., Fire Station 7:00 p.m., WOEC M-BRFPD Board Business Mtg.
