The remarkably broad selec tion of merchandise includes antiques, collectibles, artwork, new and used clothing, table ware, toys, baby items, tools, jewery, household furnishings, books and much, much more. Also included are consignment items from other collectors, in cluding Mike and Carolyn Cook. The Menagerie is an adven ture designed by collectors who love to share their talents with the public. Free disposal day for old, Hyde named to NACo panel residential, Columbia County Commis redevelopment; unsafe propane tanks commercial and industrial de sioner Tony Hyde has been A “Propane Tank Round- Up,” jointly sponsored by Co lumbia County Department of Land Development Services, St. Helens Rural Fire Protec tion District and Clatskanie Rural Fire Protection District, will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at 58555 McNulty Way in St. Helens on October 12, and at 280 SE 3rd Street in Clatskanie on October 13. Columbia County residents my either dispose of old propane tanks without charge, or exchange them for new tanks, for a fee. As of April 1, 2002, national fire protection laws have out lawed refilling small propane cylinders (4 to 40 pounds) with out an overfill protection device (OPD). New propane tanks are required to have the safety de vice. Outdated cylinders may be retrofitted, which supports the waste reduction rule of reuse, but only by a licensed person. The OPD was developed to help prevent injuries and deaths caused by leaks in propane tanks. At the very least, fumes from leaking tanks can cause headaches and breathing problems. Leaking tanks can also contaminate groundwater and drinking wa ter. The most serious problems associated with leaking pro pane tanks are fires and explo sions. The new propane tanks have valve handles with three prongs. The older tanks have valve handles with five prongs. To see if an older tank has the new safety device, check the valve handle. May- field. NACo’s eleven steering committees form the policy making arm of the association. Each committee is comprised of approximately 60 to 90 coun ty officials who meet several times during the year to exam ine issues critical to local gov ernment. The Community and Eco nomic Development Steering Committee focuses on general community development and velopment; housing programs; building and housing codes; subdivision regulation; and public works and economic de velopment. Washington-Oregon Re gional Forest Owners Field Day, an “out in the woods” ed ucational experience for peo ple who own forest land in Northwest Oregon and South west Washington, will be held September 21, in Woodland, Wash. Topics will include Wildlife Habitat Improvement, Refor estation, Fish Habitat, Forest Health, Alternate Plans, Thin ning and Pruning, Animal Dam age Control, Selling Your Tim ber, Special Forest Products and Controlling Competing Vegetation. There will also be demonstrations of Horse Log ging and Small Scale Forestry Equipment. Additionally, two three-hour workshops will be offered - Managing Hardwoods and For est Measurements - on a first come, first served, basis. Space must be reserved. At-the-door registration to this event is $25, $30 and $35. The Forest Stewardship Program is funded, in part, by USDA Forest Service, State and Private Forestry—Cooper ative Programs. Libertarians nominate Helen McDaniel Helen McDaniel of Astoria was nominated by the Libertar ian Party of Oregon (LPO) for the 16th Oregon Senate Dis trict, which includes Clatsop, Columbia and Tillamook and part of Washington County. The nominating convention was held August 26 in Beaverton. McDaniel, who has the chaired the Clatsop County Lib ertarian Party for the past two years, will challenge incumbent Democrat Joan Dukes in the November General Election.
