In August, the De partment of Human Services (DHS) sends a notice/certifica- tion letter to households receiv ing Food Stamp benefits advis ing them of their eligibility at participating schools. The DHS notice/certification letter is proof of eligibility. No other ap plication or verification of eligi bility is required for students listed on the DHS notification letter. Households not submitting the DHS letter may complete a confidential application for free or reduced-price meals which will be reviewed by a school of ficial to determine eligibility.
