The INDEPENDENT, June 20 2002 Page 5 No tax return? Check mailing address on your form City seeking applicants for council Thousands of tax year 2001 refunds have been returned to the Oregon Department of Rev enue because of incorrect mail ing addresses. “Most of the refunds that come back to us are for taxpay ers who moved after filing their returns," explained Joan Linn, manager of the departm ent’s Tax Services Unit. “ If they didn’t give us a new address or leave forwarding address with the postal service, it’s likely that they did not get their refund.” The department encourages L taxpayers to update their ad dresses with the department when they move. “Address up dates are im portant year around, not just during tax sea son,” Linn said. “We send re funds, notices and other infor mation throughout the year.” If a new address is not avail- able, the department adds the taxpayer’s name to the list of unclaimed refunds on its Web site (www.dor.state.or.us).
