Rehearsals started during the first week of January and have been held in the Vernonia First Baptist Church. They will move rehearsals to the Washington Grade School gym next week. Car wash will help recover costs The Vernonia Com m unity Choir will hold a car wash on March 9 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Vernonia School District 47J parking lot. Donations will help defray the costs of the annual Easter Cantata, which will be held this year on March 22, 23 and 24. The Easter Cantata to be performed this year by the Ver nonia Community Choir is The Borrowed Tomb, co-written by Steve Moore and David T. Clydesdale. Actors for this year’s per formance include Allen Vetch, John Cahill, Kellie Murray, An nie Dixon, Mike Skillen, Eric Peterson and Marion Johnston. Featured vocalists w ill be Sandy W elch, Julie Coontz, Phyllis Thornburg, M arcella Seager, Lana Vetch, Susie Armstrong and Kellie Murray. This annual Easter musical of faith and belief is directed by Lynda Cahill, who, like all mem bers of the Vernonia Comm uni ty Choir, is a volunteer. There will be three perform- ances - March 22, 23 and 24 - a week before Easter, in the W ashington G rade School gym. Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. on March 22-23; with a matinee performance March 24 at 3:00 p.m. There is no ad mission charge, however, free will offerings will be accepted. VHS Drama Club will perform The Zoo Story, by Al bee, and Anton Checkov’s The Marriage Proposal Two one-act plays, The Zoo Story, by Edward Albee, and The Marriage Proposal, by An ton Chekhov, will be presented by the Vernonia High School Drama Club, March 7, 8 and 9. The Zoo Story opens in New York’s Central Park with Peter, J played by Shawn Hillyer, a m id dle-aged and w ell-dressed man, peacefully reading on a park bench. W ith a sav age sense of humor and his iron will, Jerry forces Peter to come to grips with his own ra tionalizations and hypocrisies. In The M arriage Proposal, a nervous young farm er comes to propose to his neighbor’s daughter. Instead of making the proposal, the two young people get involved in many comic ar guments. Carrick Flynn stars as Stepan Stepanovitch Tchu- bukov, Rachael Bentsen plays Natalya Stepanovna. The role of Ivan Vassilyevitch Lomov is played by Casey Waltz. Both plays are directed by instructor George Ray. The March 7 and 8 perform ances w ill be at 7:00 p.m; March 9 at 8:00 p.m., in the Vernonia High School gym. There is no charge for admis sion but seating is limited.
