P a g e 10 T h e IN D E P E N D E N T , J a n u a r y 1 6 1 20 0 2 Obituary AGNES “SCOTTY” WEIMER Agnes “Scotty” Weimer, 87, Vernon ia, died December 23, 2001. A celebra tion of her life was held January 5, 2002, at Vernonia Christian Church. Mrs. Weimer was born July 30, 1914, in Glasgow, Scotland, to Marion and Alexander Crawford. They emigrat ed to San Francisco, Calif., when she was six. In her teens, she moved to Santa Monica, California. She worked for Fox West Coast Service where she and 17 others were chosen for “Wampus Babies." She also danced in many Warner Brothers musi cals, including “Forty Second Street," “Footlight Parade" and “The Crowd Roars." As a dance teacher for the Ethel Meglin Studio, one of her stu dents was a young lady named Judy Gumm, later known as Judy Garland. In 1935, she married Russell Gal- liger. They lived in Venice, California. She worked as a grocery checker in Redondo Beach, Calif. In 1959, they moved to Big Bear, Calif., where they owned and operated Snow Summit View House at the Snow Summit ski re sort. During that time, she met many in teresting people, including John Glenn, Nat “King” Cole, Connie Stevens and the crew from "Bonanza.” She was of ten a standby in movies filmed at Big Bear. She was also an assistant man ager at Robin Hood Inn. In 1970, she married Clifford Weimer. She moved to Las Vegas in 1980, and in 1989, to Vernonia. Mrs. Weimer was a member of the Vernonia First Christian Church. She was preceded in death by an infant son; both husbands, three broth ers, and a great-granddaughter. Survivors include one daughter, Di anne Cordrey of Vernonia; four grand children; nine great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a sis ter, Babe King of California. Remembrances are suggested to the Longview Hospice. OPHER J. “HAP” EAGLE, JR. Opher J. “Hap" Eagle, Jr., 82, Ver nonia, died January 3, 2002. A grave side service was held January 10 at Fairview Cemetery in Scappoose. Mr. Eagle was born July 10, 1919, in Whitetail, Mont., to Opher J. Sr. and Bertha B. Burton Eagle. He moved to Scappoose in the early 1920s and lived in Brinnon, Wash, for many years. He served in Europe with the U.S. Army during World War II. In 1958, he married Cynthia F. Bur kett. They moved to Vernonia in 1988. He held several jobs, retiring in 1973. He was preceded in death by his wife in 2001; and a son, Mark Aspgren. Survivors include three daughters, Mignon Beckman and Sheryl Adams, both of Scappoose; and Kim of St. He lens; two sons, Judd of Nevada City, Nev., and Mike Aspgren of Portland; a brother, Richard of Scappoose; sisters, Naomi Barkhurst of Portland, and Lor na Hibbs of Lincoln City; seven grand children and five great-grandchildren. Remembrances are suggested to the Kidney Association of Oregon. Grove Police Department, and as a landscaper, logger and timber buyer. He also owned Nevada Stone, and worked in construction, private security and investigation. Survivors include a daughter, Tina of Lake Oswego; a son, Robert, Jr. of Vernonia; a sister, Marilyn Lanter of Forest Grove; a brother, William Jr. of Coupeville, Wash.; niece and nephews. ROBERT E. MILLER Robert Eugene Miller, 64, Alsea, died December 9, 2001. A funeral ser vice was held Dec. 14 in Corvallis. Mr. Miller was born June 18, 1937, in Lancaster, Calif., to William and Ethel Mordecai Miller. He lived in Los Angeles then moved to Forest Grove when he was 14 and graduated from Forest Grove High School in 1957. In 1959, he married Carol Goldwater. He worked 12 years for the Forest GLADYS M. KIMMEL Gladys Marion Kimmel, 85, died January 3, 2002. A private service was held. Mrs. Kimmel was born September 25, 1916, in Joliet, Mont. Her maiden name was Oliver. She moved to Ore gon in the 1920s and graduated from Franklin High School.
