FTFN Obituary ROBERT G. “ROBBIE’’ BASKA Robert Grant "Robbie" Baska, 22, Vernonia, died June 29, 2001. Funeral services were held July 3, at Vernonia Community Church, with Pastor John Cahill of the First Baptist Church in Vernonia, officiating. Interment was at Vernonia Memorial Cemetery. Mr. Baska was bom February 2, 1979, in Portland, to Gene Grant and Teresa Darlene (Heath) Baska. He was raised in Vernonia and graduated from Vernonia High School as Valedictorian. He was a member of the National Hon or Society, received the United States Spirit of Victory Award for National Scholar and Athletic Award, the Paul Gordon Memorial Award and the Se nior Cup. He was a member of the First Bap tist Church in Vernonia. Mr. Baska was a carpenter em ployed by Rick Siler Construction Com pany in Lake Oswego. Survivors include his parents, of Vernonia; three brothers, Greg of Port land; Scott and Kelly, both of Vernonia; his grandmothers, Viola Heath of For est Grove, and Myra Baska of Vernon ia; three nieces; numerous aunts, un cles and cousins. Remembrances are suggested to the Robbie Baska Memorial Fund to assist the family, or to the Robbie Bas ka Helping Hands Fund to assist future Vernonia High School students, in care of any branch of U.S. Bank. Mrs. Abraham was born August 5, 1911, in McMinnville. Her maiden name was Palmer. She was raised in Portland and graduated from Jefferson High School. In 1934, she married Gustaf Abraham. She was a billing clerk for Mont gomery Ward and a comptometer op erator for U.S. Bank in Portland. In 1977, she moved to Fishhawk Lake., then to Sheridan about 10 years ago. Survivors include her husband; a son, Jon; a daughter, Paulina Scales; a sister, Jacque Pendergrass; four grandchildren and four great-grandchil dren. Remembrances are suggested to Mt. Hood Hospice. Services were held June 30 at Fuiten, Rose and Hoyt Funeral Home in Forest Grove, with the Reverend C. Eugene Sabin, offici ating. Interment was at the Union Point Cemetery in Banks. Mrs. Albright was born September 13, 1915, in Park Falls, Wis., to John H. and Emma (Sharper) Leitl. She was raised in Park Falls and moved to Ore gon City in 1934. In 1935, she married Harold Lester Albright. They lived in Portland until 1942, when they moved to Hayward and then to Banks. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1988; a brother, Jack Leitl; and a sister, Louise Newman. Survivors include two daughters, JoAnn Tannock of Dixie Mountain; and Carol Ness of Banks; 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. THERESA GOERTZEN Theresa Goertzen, 92, Forest Grove, died June 25, 2001. Graveside services were held June 29 at Wood bine Cemetery in Rainier, with Rev erend C. Eugene Sabin officiating. Mrs. Goertzen was born October 6, 1908, in Blue Slide, Washington, to Lee and Dorcus (Justice) Tackett. She started school in Blue Slide and gradu ated from Vernonia High School. In 1927, she married Otto Go ertzen. They lived in St. Helens. They owned and during the early 1940s, op- erated bowling alleys in Vernonia and Clatskanie. In 1963, they moved to Vernonia, spending winters in Arizona and, in 1980, moved to Scappoose. In 1990, she moved to Forest Grove, then returned to Scappoose, moved to Hills boro and in 1997, to Forest Grove. Mrs. Goertzen attended Scappoose Baptist Fellowship and was a Life member of the Rebekah Lodge. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1988, a sister, Maude Ram- sley; and a brother, Claude Tackett. Survivors include two sons, Al of Tillamook, and Douglas of Scappoose; four grandchildren; three great-grand children; nieces and nephews. Remembrances are suggested to the American Heart Association, Ore gon Affiliate, Inc., 1425 N.E.Irving St., Suite #100, Portland, OR 97232-4201. A memorial service was held June 29 in the Adams Chapel at River View Cemetery. Interment was in Willamette National Cemetery. Mr. Kostur was bom September 19, 1925, in Hillsboro and was raised in Vernonia and Tillamook. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Forces. In 1949, he married Beatta Duer- feldt. He received a bachelor’s degree from Oregon State College and was a civil engineer for several companies in Portland, retiring from Otkm Construc tion in 1990. ESTHER H. G. PEMBERTON Esther Hope Garrigus Pemberton, 82, Forest Grove, died June 24, 2001. A graveside ceremony was held at Ar cade Pioneer Cemetery. Mrs. Pemberton was born June 9, 1919, in Banks, to Jeptha Cass and Adele May Garrigus. She grew up in the Portland area and graduated from Roosevelt High School in Portland. She married Clifton H. Pemberton in 1937. They lived in northern Califor nia and Washington while he worked in construction. They retired to Paradise, Calif., then moved to Central Point and, in 1999, to Forest Grove. Mrs. Pemberton was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a primary teacher, counselor and president of the women’s relief so ciety. Survivors include a son, Clifton G. of Portland; a daughter, Cheryl Hope Blake of Corvallis; a sister, Berdena Brady of Hillsboro; a brother, Jeptha of Merlin; 10 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was raised in Port land and graduated from Commerce High School (Cleveland High School). He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946 and received the Ameri can Area Campaign Medal, the World War II Victory Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal. In 1952, he married Irene Jensen. He worked for the Portland Water Bu reau and the Portland Fire Bureau. Mr. Clink was a member of Hills boro Elks Lodge #1862 and the Inter national Association of Firefighters. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Mark of Hillsboro, and Kent of Banks; a daughter, Sherri Sievert of Hillsboro; a sister, Maryanne Wright of Portland; and his mother, Malvinia Jensen of Portland; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
