Page 10 The INDEPENDENT, July 5, 2001 Marionettes give enthusiastic start to Summer Reading Program Puppeteer Celeste Rose, from Eugene, kept a large crowd of children and parents entertained at the Vernonia Public Library’s first Summer Reading Program on June 21. Rose spun a delightful tale that utilized a cast of cow boys, villains, a heroine, dancing girls, an opera singer and a remarkable horse, and included audience participation with appropriate responses such as “Howdy, Partner,” and “They went that-a-way!” The enthusiastic young audience also sang Home on the Range, Skip to My Lou and were introduced to “Where Have You Been Billy Boy? Rose made all of the marionettes ex cept one antique marionette that she incorporates in the story. The summer program will continue each Thursday at the library at 1:00 p.m., with a vari ety of activities. Two evening programs will also be presented.
