Mr. Bates was born M ay 18, 1937, in D ouglas, Arizona. He served in the U S. Air Force and w as a retired logger, being disabled in 1995. He m arrie d J u d y F ethe rston in 1959. G raveside services w ere held June 5 at Buxton C em etery in Buxton, with R everend C. Eugene Sabin, officiating. Mrs. Kauffm an w as born Novem ber 20, 1912, in Buxton, to Nets P. and Ethel A. (Thom as) Nelson. She grew up in Buxton. She m arried Louis W. Kauffm an in 1935 in Vancouver, W ashington. They lived in Portland, Beaverton and Tigard until 1979, when they m oved to King City. In 1998, Mrs. Kauffm an m oved to M cM innville. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1994, and tw o sisters, M innie Ross and Anna Ceariey. Survivors include three daughters, Julia L. W aldron of Belen, New M exico, Linda M. Hart of Yamhill, and M arcia K. Roig of Annapolis, M aryland; a sister, M abie DeLance of W oodburn; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
