She said directors from the Co lumbia Health District Board will also be available. The Women, Infants and Children program (WIC) will prepare plenty of healthy snacks for the open house and there will be balloons, coloring books and stickers for kids. Adults can pick up literature on Public Health programs and disease prevention programs. Literature on a variety of health issues will be available free at the open house, and the public is invited to ask ques tions about specific public health programs. Nurses will be on hand to answer ques tions, do free blood pressure checks or discuss information or make referrals. Anyone can come into the Public Health offices April 23 to 27 for a free walk-in blood pressure check. Hepatitis and HIV testing and counseling is also offered throughout the week by appointment at no charge. Public Health will provide free childhood immunizations for children age 5 during cer tain times as part of Public Health Week activities. Free well water testing available must be returned to Public Health by 2:00 p.m. on the same day that it is taken. If the water tested is clean, results will be returned by mail in about a week. If a sample shows contamination, Public Health will make contact by phone and mail to advise households on setting up cor rective action. Columbia County Public Health will offer free water test ing as part of Public Health Week activities, April 23 to 26, waiving the usual $20 fee. Water tests are available to anyone who uses a private well as a water source. Tests will re veal the presence of coliform bacteria which could indicate contamination of the well.
