Page 20 The INDEPENDENT, Decem ber 6, 2000 —r Obituary {Mora obituaries on page 22) HAZEL M. STOWELL Hazel M. Stowell, 93, Buxton, died November 11, 2000. Funeral services were held November 18 at Fuiten, Rose & Hoyt Funeral Home in Forest Grove, with Muriel Marble officiating. Vault interment was at Buxton Ceme tery. Mrs. Stowell was born December 17, 1906, in Rye Valley to Tona and Mary (Kimbrough) Justus. She was raised in Rye Valley. In 1927, she mar ried Carl Wolff and they later divorced. She worked in the cook house at the Sunday Hill gold mine near Rye Valley. Later, she moved to Buxton. In 1941, she married Otto Stowell. They made their home in Buxton. Mr. Stow ell died in 1989. Mrs. Stowell was active in the Bux ton Community Club and the Sunset Grange. Survivors include three sons, Arnold K. Wolff and Anson E., both of Manning, and William S. of Clackamas; two brothers, Ben Justus of Vale, and Alva Justus of Baker City; a sister, Erma Johnson of Ontario; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchil JAMES M. FOSTER James McKee Foster, 73, Lincoln City, died November 10, 2000. A Cele bration of Life was held November 18 at the Lincoln City Community Center. Mr. Foster was born June 11,1927, in Forest Grove to James C. and Opal Pearl (Hawkins) Foster. He attended grade school in Forest Grove and grad uated from Roosevelt High School in Portland in 1945. He joined the Army in August of 1945 and served in Korea. After his discharge in 1947, he drove trucks for Industrial Air, Air-co and Liquid Carbon- ics. He retired in 1989. Mr. Foster married Margaret “Peg gy” in 1967 in Vancouver, Wash. They lived in Portland until she retired in 1993, when they moved to Lincoln City. She died just one day following his death. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and a volunteer for the Meals- LINDA L. VANDEHEY Linda L. Vandehey, 56, Hillsboro, died November 13, 2000. Disposition was by cremation. Mrs. Vandehey was bom Decem ber 3, 1943, in Cottage Grove, to Lyle and June Barnett Long. She graduated from Forest Grove High School. She worked for Bank Printing, Western States Fire Apparatus and Tu- ality Community Hospitals in Forest Grove and Hillsboro. Survivors include three sons, Michael D. Vanaken of Hillsboro, Jef fery S. Vanaken and Kenneth D., both of Forest Grove; three grandchildren; her mother, June Bejaul of Cornelius; three brothers, Kenneth D. Long of Vernonia, Lee D. Long of Hillsboro and Charlie Long of Forest Grove. Remembrances are suggested to Mrs. Foster was bom July 4, 1931 in Butte, Mont, to John and Blanch (John son) Orr. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Portland in 1948. She began working at the phone company with computers when the technology was new, and continued throughout her career. She also worked for Green Meadows Country Club in Vancouver, Wash. She married James Foster in 1967. They moved to Lincoln City in 1993. He died one day before her death. Survivors include three daughters, Sandra Lee of Seattle, Cheryl Voorhees of Washington and Mary Phillips of Depoe Bay; step-children, Jim C. of Sherwood, Steven of Port- Please see page 21 on-Wheels Program.
