Everett Brown and David Koch each added two more, while solo scores were tallied by Justin Johnson, Jere my Davis, Mitch Wood, John Walters and Matt Kelly. In the second game, Luttrell again led the scoring, with two runs. Johnson, Davis, Kyle Cota, Kelly, Walters, and Koch contributed scoring efforts to the 8-6 win. Another double header, against Warrenton on May 5, resulted in a double loss, 15-1 and 11-1. Koch and Kohei Na- gashio provided the Loggers’ only runs for the day. The first double-header of the month, against Knappa on May 2, also provided two loss es, 6-2 and 11-2. Koch and Nagashio scored in the first game; Curtis Golson and Kyle Cota each scored a run in the fifth inning of the sec ond game. The team’s final game was played last night at Corbett, too late for deadline. Their overall record is 3-16 Softball season ends with losses The Vernonia High School softball team ended their sea son with a twin bill and twin losses against Corbett at Delta Park on May 13. Final scores were 8-2 and 7-1. Bonnie Buchan and Jennifer Grady scored the only runs in the first game. During the second game, Jessica Allison’s RBI scored Nicole Koch. “The score of this game shows the team has improved,” said coach Dana Hyde. “The last time we played Corbett, the score was 15-0.” Games on May 5 and May 6 resulted in three losses — to Portland Christian, 14-2, and Warrenton, 11-1 and 9-1. Fawn Cecil pitched and scored the only run of the first game against Warrenton. Partici pating in ten of twelve events, from high jump to hurdles, the WGS team defeated the other six schools with a cumulative score of 44 points. Even more astonishing is that they accomplished this feat with only five of their nine- member team participating. Team members sharing in the WGS victory were Jim Benes, Travis Gwin, Dexter Harris, Eric Schmidlin and Josh Staggenborg. Coach Clint Kelley is under standably proud of the team’s efforts, and the accompanying trophy.
