It’s 4-H enrollment time for both adults and youth Now is the time to enroll in the C olum bia C ounty 4-H Youth D evelopm ent program for both youth members and adult volunteers. Many parents and children often begin thinking about the 4-H Youth Development pro gram as the school year ends. By then, many of the opportuni ties in 4-H are over, as well as the deadline for participating at County Fair. The 4-H Youth Development program offers a wide spec trum of projects. Projects and clubs are located in every com m unity in the county; there may be a project club for your son or daughter’s interest just around the corner. In the event that a club of interest does not exist in your area, the OSU Exten sion Service and the 4-H Youth Developm ent program offers volunteer leader training. That gives parents the opportunity to serve their child and other children as a 4-H club leader. Prospective volunteers com - “4-H Adventures” start in county Columbia County now offers a 4-H program for youngsters in kindergarten through third grade. The 4-H A dventures program is a non-competitive, age-appropriate curriculum de signed to explore the 4-H pro gram. The project takes youth through a variety of topics and activities throughout the year. The Adventures curriculum includes a variety of topics and does not concentrate on just one project as in the program for fourth through tw elvth graders. Many parents enjoy the A d ventures program it allow s members to explore for three or four years. Then, when their child is ready for a project club, they have a strong idea of what It’s only February, but plans are already being made for this summer’s Youth Summer Base ball and softball program. The program is in need of adult vol unteers. If you are interested in being involved in any capacity, please attend the first meeting to be held on Tuesday, Febru ary 22, 2000 at 7:00 p.m. at the Vernonia City Library.
