Jan. 28 - MVA, Scap-Vernonia Rd. 5.23 Hours Two injured in collision on Hwy. 47 A sleepy driver apparently caused a glancing head-on ac cident about 3-1/2 miles soutt of Vernonia on Nehalem Hwy S., Feb. 7, sending both drivers to the hospital. Shortly after 6:00 a.m., Alae- ta Uerling, Vernonia, apparent ly fell asleep while driving south in a Geo Metro, and drift ed across the center line, hit ting a northbound Ford F25C pickup driven by Gerald With- am. Witham was taken by Metro West-Vernonia ambulance to Emanuel Hospital. Uerling ini tially declined medical attention and went home. Later she called and was taken by ambu lance to Emanuel. Both drivers were released the following day. The accident closed the highway for about 25 minutes.
