Two injured in collision on Hwy. 47
A sleepy driver apparently
caused a glancing head-on ac­
cident about 3-1/2 miles soutt
of Vernonia on Nehalem Hwy
S., Feb. 7, sending both drivers
to the hospital.
Shortly after 6:00 a.m., Alae-
ta Uerling, Vernonia, apparent­
ly fell asleep while driving
south in a Geo Metro, and drift­
ed across the center line, hit­
ting a northbound Ford F25C
pickup driven by Gerald With-
am.
Witham was taken by Metro
West-Vernonia ambulance to
Emanuel Hospital. Uerling ini­
tially declined medical attention
and went home. Later she
called and was taken by ambu­
lance to Emanuel. Both drivers
were released the following
day.
The accident closed the
highway for about 25 minutes.
