GEORGE Mary Colleen George, 68, Birkenfeld, died April 9, 1999, at Community Home Health Hospice in Longview, Wash. At her request, no services were be held. Disposi tion was by cremation. Mrs. George was born Feb. 14,1931, at Omaha, Neb., to Robert and Viola (Welton) Shannon. She married William George in 1950. They lived in Grants Pass from 1960 to 1995 and moved to Birkenfeld three years ago. Mrs. George was a homemaker. She was a member of the PTA and 4-H, and was involved with the Grants Pass Elks. Mrs. George was preceded in death by a brother, Robert O. Shannon. Survivors include her husband; sons, Marc W. of Pasadena, Maryland and Craig B. of Gresham; daughter Colleen Drans- feldt of Gresham; brothers, Gene of Grants Pass and Larry of Pensacola, Fla.; sister, Shirley Logeais of Grants Pass; 11 grand children, and two great-grandchildren. HYDE Thomas Edward Hyde, 48, Irvine, Calif., died April 5, 1999, of a cerebral aneurysm. Funeral services were held in Tustin, Calif. Interment was in Newport Beach, Calif. Mr. Hyde was born April 10,1950, in Ot tumwa, Iowa. He attended school in Iowa City, Iowa. He and his wife, Ellen, were married for 22 years. Mr. Hyde was a professional photogra pher. Survivors in addition to his wife include a daughter, Shawna, who is attending San Diego State University; his mother, Annette, of Hot Springs, Ark.; brothers Tim of Arling ton, Calif., Ted of Los Angeles, Toby of Iowa City; Tony of Vernonia and Todd o, Dallas; nieces and nephews. LYLE L TAYLOR Lyle LaVerne Taylor, 75, Vernonia, died April 8, 1999, at Oregon Health Sciences University Hospital in Portland. Memorial services will be held Sunday, May 2 at Ver nonia Evangelical Bible Church, 967 State Street, with Pastor Grant Williams officiat ing. Private Interment was held. Mr. Taylor was born July 14, 1923, at Haines, Oregon, to Marion H. and Arila V. (Shadley) Taylor. He was raised in Haines and Klamath Falls. He was a member of the Madesi Indian Tribe, a splinter tribe of the Pit River Tribe. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Taylor married Elsie Nice in 1945 at Baker, Oregon. They lived in Baker until 1962, when they moved to Sherwood. In 1978 they moved to Jewell where they lived until moving to Vernonia in 1986. He worked on the farm for his uncle, as a young man, then later worked for Over head Door Company while still farming. Af ter moving to Jewell, he farmed and raised cattle and sheep. He continued to raise cat tle after they moved to their home in Ver nonia. Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by two sisters, Coena and Rowena; and three brothers, Denver, William, and Mick. Survivors include his wife; sons, Lloyd of Eugene and Gaylen of Forest Grove; brother, Walter of Cove; sisters, Thelma Cutshall of Tigard and Roseanna Streuke of Lake Oswego; a sister-in-law, Shirley Taylor of Cove; three grandchildren, includ ing Brian Taylor o, Vernonia; two great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Fuiten, Rose & Hoyt Funeral Home in Vernonia was in charge of arrangements. FRANK “DUTCH” O.HANENKRATT Frank 0 . “Dutch" Hanenkratt, 92, Jew ell, died March 30, 1999, in Astoria. A memorial service was April 2, at Caldwell's Luca-Layton Mortuary in Astoria. Interment was at Fort Stevens Cemetery, Hammond. Mr. Hanenkratt was bom Dec. 9, 1906, in Tillamook, to Francis and Alice (Franklin) Hanenkratt. He was raised in Tillamook County. He enilsted in the U.S. Army after high school, before World War II, and was sta tioned at Fori Stevens as a gun painter. He continued his career in the military, retiring from the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Hanenkratt served as town marshall in Eager, Ariz., after his discharge. He moved to Jewell in 1971. Mr. Hanenkratt was a lifetime member of Veterans o, Foreign Wars Post 8987, and a member of Clatsop Post 12 American Le gion and the Air Force Sergeants’ Associa tion. He had also been a member of the Jewell Grange. He was preceded in death by his wife, Cora Hanenkratt, in 1997. Survivors include his daughters, Helen Lawrence of Salem and Helen Honl of As toria; stepdaughters, Cheryl Piveral of Marysville, Mo., and Dana Sue Nelson of Eager, Ariz.; stepson, Glenn Shaw of Mine ola, Tex.; a half sister, Nadine Andan of Seattle; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary of As toria was in charge of arrangements. JAMES W. WOOD James Willsey Wood, 65, Hillsboro, died April 4,1999, in Portland, of cancer. At his request, no services will be held. Dispo sition was by cremation. Inurnment was in Skyline Memorial Gardens in Portland. Mr. Wood was born April 25, 1933, in Curtis, Neb. He had lived in Hillsboro since he was a teen and attended Hillsboro High School. He served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Wood married Ruth Herbert in 1953. He was a machinist for Albina Engine & Machine and later was a machinist superin tendent at Techni-Flow until his retirement in 1994. Survivors include his wife; daughter, Kimberlee Mannerow of Forest, Ontario, Canada; sons, Barry J. and Chirstopher E., both of Hillsboro; sisters, Irma Mack of Hillsboro and Relda Peters of Edmonds, Wash.; brother, Leonard of Manning, and three grandsons. Remembrances are suggested to the American Cancer Society. RETHA PAGE Retha Page, 90, died March 31, 1999. At her request, no service was held. Inter ment was in Riverview Cemetery. Mrs. Page was born Aug. 26, 1908, in Cathlamet, Wash. Her maiden name was Berry. She lived in Vernonia and McMinnville before moving to the Portland area. Mrs. Pago was a sales representative and trainer for Niagara Cyclo Massage Co. and retired in 1973. She married Jesse B Crandall in 1927; he died in 1942 In 1972 she married Norman Page; he died in 1983. She married John Henderson in the early 1990s; he died in Feb., 1999. Mrs. Page was a member of Tigard Christian Church. Survivors include her daughters, Jean- nine McKinley o, Silverton and Mary Lou Schnell of Sherwood; son, Melvin Crandall of Tigard; sister, Agnes Jensen o, Maple ton; 10 grandchildren, and 17 great-grand children. Remembrances are suggested to Tigard Christian Church. Young’s Funeral Home on Tigard was in charge of arrangements. MAURENE G. MARKWART Maurene G. Markwart, 84, died April 13, 1999. A memorial service was April 17, in Bethany Lutheran Church. Private inter ment was in Willamette National Cemetery. Mrs. Markwart was born April 17, 1914, in Portland and was raised in Seaside. Her maiden name was Berg. She graduated from Emanuel Hospital School of Nursing in 1936. Mrs. Markwart served as a nurse in the U.S. Army in England and Germany during World War II. She married Edwin H. Markwart in 1950. Mrs. Markwart was a registered nurse for 10 years in the offices of Drs. Fearl and Stearns and was co-owner with her hus band of Wilshire Pharmacy for 40 years un til their retirement in 1991. Survivors include her husband; son, William of Portland; brother, Edward of Jewell, and two grandchildren. CHICO “MICKEY” TEJEDA Chico "Mickey” Tejeda, 29, Tigard, died March 31, 1999, in Buxton. No services will be held. Disposition was by cremation. Mr. Tejeda was born March 5, 1970, in North Bend. He worked as a maintenance assistant a, Park Place Living Center. Mr. Tejeda was preceded in death by two brothers, Bo and Nicholas. Survivors include three sons, Hunter, Brandon, and Jeremy, all of Oregon; two daughters, Jessica and Samantha, both of Oregon; his mother, Jodi Christian of Eu gene; father, Manuel Humberto Tejeda Sr., of El Monte, Calif.; his adopted father, Skip Christenson of Oregon; brothers, Rick of Oregon, Skip, and two other brothers of California; sisters, Rowena and Gina, both of Oregon, and Kathy and two other sisters of California; grandparents, Georgi and Mac McCollum of Eugene, and Mr. and Mrs. Horace Hamm of Oregon; and a girl friend, Kimberly. MONTE L. TALLMAN Monte L. Tallman, 79, died April 13, 1999. A memorial service was April 17, in Fuiten, Rose & Hoyt Funeral Home in For est Grove. Disposition was by cremation. Mr. Tallman was born Feb. 25, 1920, in Buxton and was raised in Timber. He grad uated from Forest Grove Union High School and attended the University of Ore gon. He served in the U.S. Army Air Forces in Europe during World War II. Mr. Tallman married Donna C. Page in 1942. He was a logger, mill worker, and a coin collector for GTE for 20 years before retir ing about 1985. Survivors include his wife; daughter, Donna L. Jacobs of Oak Harbor, Wash.; five grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchil dren. Remembrances are suggested to the American Heart Association. Do you need childcare?
