We felt the warm “home town” feeling, just driving in to town so, on this 22nd day of August I went to register two of my four children for school. I was upset to learn there is no PTA or PTO here. Where we come from, my husband and I and a good share of our friends were in volved and loved participating in our children’s school time, as well as extracurricular ac tivities. Some of the things we did for our kids were to get mate rials fo r the playground, li brary, arts and crafts, and help as teachers' aides or on the playg rou nd as w ell as putting on a book fa ir and c a rn iv a l th a t raised about $3,500 for our classrooms. Time is always an issue, but we all make tim e to do things we enjoy; so why not show our kids we enjoy time SHERYL. KENYON Sheryl Lynn Kenyon, 41, Birken- feld, died Aug. 7, 1995, near Long Beach, Wash., as a result of an auto mobile accident. Funeral services were held Aug. 13, at Mist G rade School. G ravesid e com m ittal fo l lowed at Fishhawk Cemetery, Birken- feld. A Memorial Service was held August 22 at Saint Andrews Presby terian Church in Renton, Wash. Mrs. Kenyon was bom May 18, 1954, in Renton, Wash., to David and Maxine Bryant Fisher. She received her schooling in Renton, graduating from H azen High School in 1972. She also graduated from Green Riv er Community College, then obtained a BA in sociology and a BS in society and justice from the University of Washington. She m arried G erald Kenyon in 1991, in Renton. They lived in the Portland area until moving to Birken feld last year. Mrs. Kenyon had been employed by Boeing in Renton as a computer analyst. At the time of her death, she was employed by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and was on her way to her first day of work at the Willapa WiidHfe Refuge when the ac cident occurred. Mrs. Kenyon w as active in Girl Scouts, youth groups, the Pacific C o a s t Lan d R o v e r C lu b , N a ta l Grange, and Birkenfeld Community Church. In addition to her husband, sur vivors include her father, David Fish e r of W e n a tc h e e , W ash.; m o th er Maxine Hail of Birkenfeld; daughter, Tracy Lynn C lay of Tualatin; son Steven Norris Clay of Birkenfeld; brothers Orrin Hoopman of Birken feld and Erik Hoopman of Renton. PERRY Harry Jerome Perry, 87, Forest Grove, died Aug. 9, 1995, at a Hills boro care center. Services were held Aug. 14 at Fuiten-R ose Mortuary Chapel of Forest Grove, with the Rev. Dave Gutmann of SL Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church officiating. A flag honor presentation was under the direction of Lester H eisler of American Legion Washington Post 2 of Forest Grove. The success of this ye a r’s event can only be attributed to one thing...community in volvement. Without the nu merous volunteers who spent countless hours writing let ters, making phone calls and organizing final details, the 1995 Jam boree would not have been such a huge suc cess. The Jamboree Committee was extremely pleased with the results of this year’s fes tivities, and we cannot ex Detroit in 1929. She died in 1978. He served with the 443rd Medical Collecting Company of the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked as a printer for Stan dard Accident Insurance Company in Philadephia, Pa., for more than 35 years. After the death of his wife he lived in Newport with his family until 1984, when he moved to McMinnville. He had been a resident of the Beehive Assisted Living C e n te r in Forest Grove since July 1994. Mr. Perry was a member of the Catholic Church and was active in the Knights of Columbus. He also was a member of the Ancient Fire men Association. Survivors include four children, Robert of Greenbush, Mich, Barbara Jepson of Banks, Dale of Washou gal, Wash., and Michael of Cinnamin- son, N .J.; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Elsie Kawalski of Detroit; several nieces and nephews. LORETTA W. “LETTY” MEAD L o re tta W . ‘ L etty’ M e a d , 7 7 , B anks, d ied Aug. 18, 1995, of a stroke. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Aug. 22, at SL Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Roy. Inter ment was in SL Francis Cemetery. Mrs. Mead was bom March 10, 1918, in Mountaindale to Henry and Mary Ellen Vandehey VanDomeien. She atten d ed Harrison School, a one-worn school in Mountaindale. She married Thomas J. Mead in 1937 in Roy. They resided in Banks. Mrs. M ead worked in the food processing industry for Gray & Co. in Forest Grove for 10 years. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1993, a son, Richard in 1 9 8 0 , two g ran d so n s a n d ten brothers and sisters. Survivors include her daughters, Marlene Beige of KenL Wash., and Susie Hardwick of Mountaindale; a daughter-in-law, Susie Mead of Cor nelius; brother, Jule VanDomeien of Hillsboro; sisters, Betty Baker of Alo h a, M arty B utterw orth of B anks, Leona Daquilante of Aloha and Irene Anderson of Tigard; seven grandchil dren and 10 great-grandchildren. Mr. T h o m as w as born Jan. 4, 1917, in Sheridan, Wyo., to Samuel R. and N ellie M um a Thom as. He moved to San Diego, Calif., in 1940. He married Ruth Elder in 1942 in San Diego. Mr. Thom as served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and Korea and as a civilian in Vietnam. While in Vietnam, he was honored with the Elsworth Bunker Award. He retired from federal Civil Ser vice in California after 32 years and moved to Banks in 1981. In 1992, he received the Award of Merit for Christian Service from the Oregon District of the Lutheran Lay men’s League, in which he’d been an active m em b er for m ore than 35 years. Survivors in addition to his wife, include two sons, R o b ert o f O r angevale, Calif., and Dan R. of Hills boro; six grandchildren; three broth ers, Uoyd and Ralph, both of Sheri dan, Wyo., and Roy of Story, Wyo.; three sisters, Dorothy Btug of Buffa lo, W yo ., B e m ie c e M u sg rave of Sheridan, Wyo, and Ruth Peterson of Newtown, Penn. Jenkins and Ann L Henry James. Jenkins. S h e m arried J a m e s E. "Bud” R ose in 1924 in L aM esa, Texas. They lived in Cripple Creek, Colo., until moving to Vernonia in 1925. In 1969 they moved to Forest Grove. Mrs. Rose was a homemaker and also worked at the Oregon American Saw m ill in V ern o n ia and, during World W ar II, in the Portland ship yards. Mrs. O lso n w as b o m M ay 3 0 , 1902, in Lily, S .D ., to Herman and Frances Bolhalter Gow. She moved with her family to Canada in 1911. She married W alter A. Olson in 1924 in Canada and they moved to Oregon in 1925. In 1932, they moved to Hflsboro, then settled in Banks in 1939. Mrs. O lson w as a h o m em aker and a hostess with the former Sunset South Park Vernonia Railroad. She was also a member of the Washing ton Grange. She was preceded in death by her husband. Survivors include her daughters, W anita J. Galinat of Sheridan and Donna M.
