O thers have discovered that in certain lines of busi ness you can enjoy the best of two worlds. Such a happy camper is stockbroker Troy Horton. His family’s migration from Portland to Fishhawk Lake, while it was an escape from the city, was also more of a gra du al re tu rn to his roots. Horton’s family had owned land betw een M ist and Birkenfeld a long tim e ago, and his father had graduated from Westport High School. Three years ago, Horton and his wife, Helen, invested in a summer cabin at the lake and enjoyed it so much they de cided to make it their perma nent home. A year ago they sold their Portland home and built a new house at the lake. These moves were possi ble only because newer tech nology elim inates the need for an office in the city from which to conduct his line of work. Horton has 16 years of ex perience as a stockbroker. The first 8 years he co-man- aged an office in Beaverton. His firm, First Allied Securi ties, is located in San Diego and is a member of the Na tional Association of Securi ties Dealers and of Securities Investor Protection Corpora tion, using Bear Stearns as their clearing firm. Horton specializes in help ing individuals meet their long term financial goals. Helen Horton, however, is still a commuter, but would be in any case, for she works for K a ise r P erm anente in the home health division of hos pice and most of her clients are in Clark County, Washing ton. Their oldest daughter, Lori and he r fa m ily, have also moved to the lake. Lori’s chil dren attend Jew ell Schoo! while she is in an on-the-job training mode with her father, planning to become a broker, too. The Hortons were active in a number of community orga nizations in their former com m unity and look forward to greater involvement in their new community.
