I The INDEPENDENT, April 13,1994 Marie Hartke Redner, who came to the United States from Lodz, Poland. He grew up in the Patton Valley area, where he lived with his mother and stepfather, Berthold Fleischhauer. He made his home in Gaston for eighty- six years, until he moved to McMin nville to live with his daughter. In 1994 he moved to Forest Grove. He was a fanner as a young man. In the 1950s, ’60s and '70s he was active in the timber industry, invest ing in Washington and Columbia Counties. In this capacity, he became acquainted with many people in the Vernonia area. Mr. Redner was the first president of the Washington County School Board Association, which was formed in the 1940s. He was a mem ber of the Gaston High School Board, for thirty-tw o years, and served in several capacities on the board of the Oregon Prune Ex change. He was preceded in death by five brothers and sisters. Survivors include six daughters, Virginia J. McLeod of McMinnville, Jackie Rogers and Sharon A. Smith, both of Forest Grove, Carlea Hermen of Albany, Susan Jones of Parma, Idaho, and Marie Swander of Lebanon; fifteen grandchildren; sev enteen great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; a special friend, Evelyn Leamon of Forest Grove. The family suggests that remem brances be contributions to the Gas ton Baseball Association and Gaston LEO T. HERB Leo Theodore Herb, 90, Corvallis, died April 4, 1994, in a Corvallis hos pital. A rosary was recited April 7 in the DeMoss-Durdan Garden Chapel in Corvallis, and a funeral Mass was said April 8 in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Corvallis. Mr. Herb was bom Jan. 13, 1904, in Banks. He graduated from Banks High School and attended business college in Portland. He m arried Catherine Blakely in 1936. She died about thirty years ago. He worked as a grocery store manager in Portland, Albany and Corvallis until World War II, when he worked in the Portland shipyards. Af ter the war he managed the Corvallis Country Club until 1961, and the Whiteside Theater until his retirement in 1980. Survivors include his daughter, Dorothy Buckley of Beaverton; broth ers, J. Ferd and Gerald, both of For est Grove; two grandchildren and two great-grandchi Id ren. E. J. BYNUM E. J. Bynum, 59, Banks, died April 2, 1994, at his home. Funeral services were held April 7 at the Fuiten-Rose Chapel in Forest Grove, with the Rev. David R. Kinman, pas tor of Banks Com m unity United Methodist Church, officiating. Inter ment was at Crescent Grove Ceme tery in Tigard. Mr. Bynum was born July 29, 1934, in Cyril, Okla., to Edward J. and Ida Lee Welch Bynum. The fami ly moved to Chowchilla, Calif., where he was raised and educated. He married LaVeme K. Barton Dreith in Vancouver, Wash., in 1979, and they made their home in Banks. He worked for Oroweat Foods Company in Beaverton for ten years, then for Franz Bakery for another ten years, retiring in 1992. He was preceded in death by a grandson in 1984. Survivors in addition to his wife, include four children, Cheryl Plaster of Newberg, Janet L. Kosmecki of Brush Prairie, Wash., Jim Bynum and Mark J. Dreith, both of Forest Grove; a brother, Charlie West of Portland; a sister, Mary Ellen Nottnagel of Prague, Okla.; eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The family suggests that remem brances be contributions to the Sal vation Army, 1785 NE Sandy Blvd., Portland, 97232. Fuiten-Rose Chapel of Forest Grove was in charge of arrange ments. GUSTAVE A. REDNER Gustave A. Redner, 93, Gaston, died April 6, 1994, at a Forest Grove center. Funeral services were held April 6 at Fuiten-Rose Chapel in Forest Grove, with Fr. Dave Gutman, of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Forest Grove, officiating. Interment was at Mt. Olive Cemetery, Dilley. Mr. Redner was born May 27, 1900, in Oregon City, to Arthur and Ball Park Field of Dreams, c/o Chris Anderson, P.O. Box 397, Gaston, 97119. Fuiten-Rose Chapel was in chaige of arrangements. EFFIE MAY USHER Effie May Usher, 73, St. Helens, died April 4 at a care center. At her request, no services were held. Mrs. Usher was bom in St. He lens Feb. 10, 1921, to Walter W. and Effie M. Buck White. She spent most of her life in St. Helens, but also resided at various times in Vernonia and Scappoose. She was preceded in death by her husband, Darwin Usher. Survivors include her sons Dar win, David and Jim, all of Albany, Wayne Pierce of Creswell, Walt Pierce of North Bend and Mickey Hansen of Lafayette; daughters Lin da Gamer of Hoquiam, Wash., Judy Mundy of Tacoma and Carol Malloy of Anahawk, Texas; 17 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. HENRY G. WILSON Henry Gager Wilson, 92, Rainier, died March 30, 1994, at his home. Graveside services were held April 4 at Zion Memorial Park Cemetery in Canby, with Pastor Leland Maxfield officiating. Mr. Wilson was born in Colfax, Wash., April 23, 1902, to Clarence H. and Mattie Gager Wilson. He lived in Canby in his younger years, later in Mist. He worked at various jobs, but his favorite was ranch work. Until he retired in 1989, he had spent 30 Page 17 years working summers in Montana as a ranch hand. He was preceded in death by his wife, Blanche Mayfield Wilson, in 1982 and a stepdaughter, Arloene Johnson, in 1993. Survivors include a daughter, Carrie Edwards of Rainier; a son. Henry Jr., of Ketchikan, Alas.; a sis ter, Alberta Burke of John Day; twelve grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren. CECYL M. MUHR Cecyl M. Muhr, 89, died April 9, 1994. Services were held April 14 in Newberg, with interment in Friends Cemetery. Mr. Muhr was born March 9, 1905, near Reddington, Neb. He married Julia E. Tinsley in 1925. They farmed in the Midwest until moving to Newberg in 1969. He worked in m aintenance fo r the W illam ina School D istrict and at George Fox College. His wife died in 1985. He was a member of the West Chehalem Friends Church. Survivors include his sons, Ray mond of Newberg, Larry of Kimball, Neb., Gary of Dayton, Leon of Bux ton and Doyle of Portland; daughters, Glenna Jansen, Darlene Gibbs and Bonnie Libby, all of Newberg; sisters, Pearl Tinsley of Alliance Neb., Opal Sample of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Ruby Greathouse of Dering, Neb.; 29 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren.
