The winning theme was submitted by Genesse Hoiland, a junior high student at Washington G rade School. Hoiland will receive fifty dollars, half of the prize money, because she did include an illustration with her entry. The theme will be rep resented throughout the Jam boree celebration, in window decorations, on T-shirts and in the annual parade. Nellie Tipton was unani mously chosen as “C itizen Through the Years,” a title given to a person in the co- munity who has given their time and energy to make Ver nonia a better place to live. Tipton is being recognized for her countless hours of volun teer work at the Vernonia Se nior Center. I wish to express my words of appreciation to the many friends who supported me with cards, prayers and visits while I was hospitalized for hip replacement. A special thanks to the peo ple at the Senior Center, the Christian Church ladies and my Home Extension group for their special care, also to others in the community who stopped in to see me while I was in the hos pital. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated and can be submitted to the commit tee in person or in writing. More people are needed for the committee; however p ro g re ss is being m ade. Young adults and students would be very welcome, as the committee tries to create new activities while polishing old ones to make the 1994 Jamboree even more family- oriented than previous cele brations.
