In its wake, new businesses have emerged, with sales and in stallation of gas furnaces, hot w ater heaters, stoves and clothes dr yourselfers, too. In addition, he expects to develop a service and repair shop for all heating equip ment and large appliances. Hildebrand says he hopes to make this business venture a permanent facility and, per haps, move to Vernonia with his family. M oving into the F low er Shop, another vacant restau rant b u ild in g , on M adison Ave. next to the Four Square Church, is D & H Contracting from Portland. Occupying the front of the building is a d is p la y room fe a tu rin g Rheem heating equipment. A building at the rear will house a sheet metal shop. Owner Dave Hilde brand, who is expanding his Hillsboro business here, has been active in heating fo r twelve years and has owned Mid West for the past eight years. Hildebrand specializes in furnace installation as well as appliances and is equipping the Bridge S treet b u ild in g w ith a sheet m etal shop where he will fabricate duct work for his own installations and provide ducts fo r do-it- tems for shops, large build ings and warehouses. Work ing with Hasler in sales and service is Sam Morrison. Williamson on Heather Lane. H obson has e ig h te e n years of experience in the fie ld and has had his own business four years. He pro vides sales, service and in s ta lla tio n of all gas a p p li ances as well as air condi tioning and service. AFCO does not have a local a d dress at the present time. Vernonia C.A.T.V., Inc. is in the process of upgrading the cable te le visio n system in preparation for some added channels in 1992. Television reception should become in c re a s in g ly s h a rp e r on all ch a n n e ls, a cco rd in g to a company spokesperson, eas ing the inconvenience of hav ing the system down for peri ods of time as work continues throughout January and, pos sibly, February. The first additional channel scheduled is Fox Broadcast ing, by March 1. Fox Broad casting is televised by Chan nel 49 in Portland; however, it cannot be received with any clarity in Vernonia, so recep tion will be via satellite. A survey of Vernonia cable c u s to m e rs in d ic a te s th a t Country Music Television is the first choice for the next additional channel. After that, there is a close race between CNN (Cable News Network) Natural gas installation: Fæmpag. 1 vice. All of them offer free es timates and consultation con cerning the most appropriate and cost-e ffective ap plica tions A weatherization program is also o ffe re d th ro u g h N.N.G., including a free ener gy audit. Weatherization is available with 6.5 percent fi nancing or a 25 percent re bate. Rental property owners may obtain a 28.85 percent tax credit with this program. Financing fo r residential e le ctric-to -g a s con version may be arranged on a five or ten year plan with no down payment required. The inter est rate for five years or less is 9.5 p e rc e n t; up to ten years, the interest rate is 10.5 percent. Northwest Natural Gas also provides free in spection and diagnostic ser vice calls. The ad ditional channels will require the use of con verter boxes by custom ers with televisions that are not cable ready. OLCC lets contract to Video Express, relocation planned Bill and Janice Fisher have been appointed by the O re gon Liquor Control Commis sion to o p e ra te th e state liquor store in Vernonia be ginning the first of March. Negotiations with Wallace and Rose Dettmers to lease the Bridge Street Hardware b u ild in g are in the fin a l stages, Bill Fisher said, which would leave the liquor store in its present location. The Fishers plan to move Vernonia Video Express, their present business, to the new lo catio n and are exploring various avenues for providing a hardw are line to restock Bridge Street Hardware. Bill Fisher plans to contin ue as a contract mail carrier with the U S. Postal service and will subcontract some of those duties.
