A portable bath-house with shower arrangement was also fitted up so that when It was connected by hose to the tank on the water car It af forded' a pleasant means of refresh ment following a hard day under' a broiling sun, with the thermome ter usually around a hundred In tho shado. The trains wore easily moved from ono siding to another and wero always within six miles at tho outsldo of the particular Jot where the construction gang was at work. Tho kitchen, car ,wai equipped with another hose, also connected with the water tank, and gravity did the rest, so that tho men who wero detailed to . tho "kitchen polirc" were saved many a stop. The wntcr was furnished by the railroad company as needid, while groceries and other supplies wero obtained In wholesalo lots from tho various towns r.long tho line.
