Deer hunting is on, officially proclaimed. (United News) The air is so crowded with the uproar of critical doings in ten nis and baseball that two champion ship fights on the program for the Immediate future in New York are receiving about as much public no tice as the quarter finals of the Junior metropolitan hop-scotch cham pionship. Paul Berlenbach is to defend the light heavyweight championship of the world Friday night in the Yan kee stadium against Jimmy Slattery, and -on the night of September. 21 Mickey Walker will risk the welter weight .title, at least, in a flight with Dave Shade, barring the unforseen. Berlenbach and Slattery seem to be about a stand-off In the reckon ing of the probabilities. Poul hits much harder than Shade, who knocked Slattery cold a few weeks ago, and therefore has a chance to win by. a knockout if he can hit Slattery squarely. However, Slat tery is a tip-top boxer, with a flit ting style, who always fights best against slow moving bodies, of which Berlenbach is one of the slowest.
