Oahu, chief island of the Hawaiian group, and sole defense of the mainland of America against onslaught from the Pacific, Is ready for war. All night Wednesday the tramp ing of troops, the rumble of gun caissons and the roar of catarplllar tractors echoed through the empty strocts of tho stooping city, and at dawn officers announced that prep arations had been completed for withstanding the mighty blue fleet which is bearing down somewhere beyond the blue horizon line in an effort to efface this emerald dot In mid-l'ariflc from the military maps.
