DKG Meets At Pelican The Christmas theme uas cleverly carried out in the Pel. itan Party Room (or the lunch eon meeting of Alpha Chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma, interna tional honor society for wom en teachers, on Dec. 7. Boughs and sprigs of cedar and pine accented by pine cones and red tapers enhanced the tables and appointments throughout the room. The musical portion of the program was presented by the boys' octet from the seventh grade at Mills School, directed by Mrs. Jane Craig. Guest speaker was Mrs. Car rol i Marjorie i Howe, who told of her impressions and experi ences as a legislator's wife. She also told of women in the Senate and House of Represen tatives. Highley, residents of Klamath Falls since I92S. They are pictured with an an niversary cake, gift of Mr. Local Pair Wed 60 Years ' Sixty years ago on Dec. 14, 1903. Jessie 'May Sell became the bride of Walter T. Highley in Loup City; Neb. This year on that date, Saturday, Dec. 14. they were honored at a family dinner at the home of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mas. Robert F. Davenport, 212 North Second Street. Mr. and Mrs. Highley have lived in Klamath Falls since 1923. He was employed in the lumber business until his retire ment in 1947. They are parents of one daughter and three sons. Two sons were present for the anni versary dinner, Viigil Highley of Burney and E. C. Highley, this city, and their wives. Mr. and Mrs. Ted G. Highley of So nora, Calif., were unable to be present. Also absent from the festivities was a grandson, J. R. Davenport of Reno. Mr. and Mrs. Highley re ceived many congratulatory messages from members of the Royal .Neighbors with which Mrs. Highley is affiliated and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. HENLEY CLl'B MEETS The Henley faculty wives and women teachers, a new or ganization formed this year, met Dec. 4 at Henley High School. An interesting program was presented by Laura's Beau ty Fair. On their return to Klamath Falls the newlyweds were honored at a reception given by Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Speaker was Gwen Harper, center, director of Region VI, who was making her of ficial visit to the Klamath Council of Camp Fire Girls. Presiding at the meeting was Mrs. Henry Kerr, right, chairman of South Klamath Falls District. Mrs. Lawrence Slater, left, was installing officer for new district officers. Tips To Remove Yuletide Stains By KAY SHERWOOD Women'i Editor Newspaper Enterprise Assn. Along with the holiday joys goes the not-so-convivial after mat of cleaning up. Although the best advice from home economists is to treat stains promptly, some nights I'm just too weary to bother. It does help, though, to have remedies on hand. A new trick to me but an old one to a friend of mine helps keep wine stains from setting. When someone spills wine, in vite them to douse the slain thoroughly with plain salt. I don't know the chemical ex planation, but this treatment j does seem to prevent the stains j from setting and, when I tried SEE OUR FINE COLLECTION OF DECORATIONS FREE PARKING Falls. Ore. Sunday, December I?, 1963 it, they washed right out of the cloth. Lipstick stains on napkins or guest towels may or may not wash out. One handy aid in an emergency is petroleum jelly. Squeeze a bit on the stain and let it soften before launder ing. If soft drinks have been spilled, sponge with cool water or equal parts of alcohol and water, then rub petroleum jel ly over the spot. Let it stand for at least half hour (or long er', rinse and launder as usual. Hot water and soap will re move most food stains. But, if I find an unusually greasy spot, I spot-clean it first with a cleaning solvent. Incidentally, a good cleaning solvent which I use for all kinds of oily or greasy stains is one made by a national professional rug-cleaning service. If a liqueur has dried in the bottom of a tiny glass, soak in warm and soapy water, then swab w ith a cotton-tipped swab. Swabs are also effective in reaching stains in cut glass ware and silver.
